HR Director – Cooperative Organization
Schedule: 4 days on-site, Fridays remote

About the Role
We are seeking a strategic, hands-on HR Director to lead and elevate the Human Resources function for our cooperative organization. This individual will serve as a trusted partner to leadership, guide HR operations, and foster a culture of collaboration, compliance, and employee engagement. The ideal candidate is both a strategic thinker and an operational executor—comfortable designing the HR strategy while also rolling up their sleeves to implement it.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
- Serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership on workforce planning, organizational design, and people-related initiatives.
- Lead and mentor the HR team; ensure effective performance management and professional development.
- Champion the cooperative's mission, values, and culture through all HR programs.
Talent Acquisition & Development
- Oversee full-cycle recruitment, ensuring effective talent pipelines for both field and corporate roles.
- Develop onboarding, training, and leadership development programs tailored to the cooperative environment.
- Partner with department leaders to identify skill gaps and build training solutions.
Employee Relations & Engagement
- Drive employee engagement strategies that support retention, communication, and collaborative work environments.
- Provide guidance on employee relations, conflict resolution, performance concerns, and corrective action.
- Maintain positive working relationships across all teams and promote a strong, inclusive culture.
HR Operations & Compliance
- Oversee HR policies, compliance, and best practices, ensuring adherence to state and federal employment laws.
- Manage compensation and benefits administration, including annual reviews and benchmarking.
- Maintain HR systems and reporting, ensuring accuracy in personnel records, payroll coordination, and data integrity.
- Lead initiatives around safety, workers' compensation, and regulatory compliance.
Cooperative-Specific Responsibilities
- Understand and support the unique operational, cultural, and governance structures of a cooperative.
- Partner with senior leadership on member-related initiatives, communication, and community-focused programs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- PHR/SPHR certification preferred.
- 6–10 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 5 years in a management or leadership role.
- Experience working in a cooperative strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of employment law, HR compliance, and best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization.
- Hands-on leader with the ability to balance strategic vision with day-to-day HR operations.
- Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Pay: $155, $165,000.00 per year
