What are the responsibilities and job description for the The Quarterdeck Host position at The Sea Pines Resort?
A Host/Hostess presents a positive first impression of the establishment’s friendliness, excellent service and high standards. The Host/Hostess also greet Guests upon arrival, inform Guests of their wait time, monitor a waiting list, enter Guest names into the computer system, show Guests to their table and bid Guests farewell as they leave. As a member of an energetic team, the Host/Hostess may also need to answer the phones and fill to-go orders when needed.

- Greet incoming and departing Guests warmly with a genuine smile and eye contact; escort them to assigned dining area; present menus; announce waiter's name
- Use visual cues to seat Guests in either the bar or dining area depending on their preference
- Inform Guest of current promotion and who will be serving them to ensure a smooth handoff to the service staff
- Adhere to all posted opening/closing side work duties as it relates to position.
- Attend Pre-shift at designated time
- Be aware of daily specials
- Be knowledgeable of all menu items, their garnish, contents and preparation methods and be prepared to answer any guest questions about the menu in a direct, concise way. Be knowledgeable of Sea Pines Resort standards as it applies to beverage service.
- Memorize table numbers, station numbers, and contents of stations as they apply to the number of servers working. Memorize pivot points of each guest at each table.
- Exhibit a sense of teamwork, pride and confidence at all times, be friendly and smile with the guests as well as with other employees.
- Become familiar with all special coupons, discounts and payments accepted at the resort and how to process them through MICROS.
- Have thorough understanding of hours of operations for all Sea Pines Resort outlets as well as entertainment and special event schedules.
- Become proficient in cash handling and ‘point of sale’ check administration as well as become familiar on how to process ‘to go’ orders.
- Become familiar with all Restaurant Daily paperwork as it applies to the operation of each shift.
- Each employee is expected to carry out all reasonable requests by management, which the employee is capable of performing.
- Previous experience serving customers either in a restaurant or banquet setting.
- 1-4 years education at the high school level or equivalent education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- 6 months experience in a full-service restaurant preferred
