Key Responsibilities
- Design, fabricate, and repair precision tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures from raw materials.
- Operate conventional and CNC machine tools, including lathes, mills, grinders, and EDMs.
- Interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and engineering specifications.
- Perform precise measurements using a variety of inspection tools to ensure adherence to tight tolerances.
- Conduct preventative maintenance and troubleshooting on existing tooling to minimize production downtime.
- Collaborate with engineers and production staff to optimize tool performance and manufacturing processes.
- Select appropriate materials and heat treatments for tool longevity and performance.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a Tool Maker or in a similar precision machining role.
- Proficiency in operating manual and CNC machine tools (e.g., lathes, mills, grinders, EDMs).
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Expertise in using precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, gauges, optical comparators).
- Solid understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
- Knowledge of various tooling materials, heat treatment processes, and their applications.
- Proficiency with advanced CAD/CAM software for tool design and CNC programming.
- Experience operating and programming EDM or Wire EDM machines.
- Strong understanding of GD&T principles and CMM operation for precision inspection.
- Knowledge of specialized tool steels, heat treatments, and surface coatings.
