What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Manager position at The Midtown Group?
We are actively interviewing for this position. If interested please apply now.
To help lead our shop through this exciting phase of growth, we are seeking a strategic Production Manager. In this role, you will oversee our entire fabrication operation, leading a dedicated production team of employees. We need a true systems-builder who can step back from the daily "boots-on-the-ground" work to establish efficient workflows, implement a second shift, and build a self-sustaining internal training program.
What You Will Do:
- Department Leadership: Manage the full pathway of our shop's production, overseeing our Carpentry, Paint, and Finishing (Bondo) departments.
- Shift Expansion: Strategize, staff, and successfully oversee the implementation of a new second shift to maximize our facility's productivity and handle our growing volume of work.
- Architect a Training Engine: Design and execute a formal, multi-tiered internal certification program. You will teach our highest-level team members how to train and certify junior staff, creating a cycle that runs itself.
- Technical Feasibility: Act as the technical expert to evaluate short-lead-time project inquiries, determining if our shop has the capacity and technical ability to build complex elements on tight deadlines.
- Process Optimization: Partner with our operations team to develop cross-departmental workflows, allowing staff to cross-train between the warehouse and the shop to earn higher wages.
- Scale for the Future: Optimize shop efficiency to significantly reduce our reliance on expensive overtime labor.
What You Bring to the Table:
- Experience: Proven leadership background managing fabrication, manufacturing, modular builds, or trade show exhibit construction.
- Team Development: Experience managing shop foremen/supervisors and teams of 20 hourly, overtime-eligible employees.
- Mindset: We look for three core intangibles: honesty, humility, and hunger. We actively want to hire ambitious leaders who genuinely aspire to grow with us even to the point of one day taking over the CEO's job.
- Commitment: An understanding that the events industry fluctuates. You excel at staffing up and building systems during our dead seasons to prepare for intense, high-volume event seasons where long days are required.
Compensation & Perks:
- Competitive Base Salary: ~$90,000.
- Lucrative Bonus Structure: $20,000 to $30,000 annually, incentivized heavily around hitting milestones and saving on operational and overtime costs.
- Unmatched Time Off: 2 weeks of accrued PTO, plus the opportunity to earn up to 18 additional days off (9 in spring, 9 in fall) for working weekends during busy seasons. This equals a potential of 28 business days off per year, which can also be cashed out.
- Retirement: 401(k) available on day one with a 3% match (5-year vesting schedule).
Salary : $20,000 - $30,000
