Position Title: DevOps Manager (Hands-On)
Location: Irvine, CA/Seattle, WA/Portland, OR - Remote
Reports To: Director of Product Innovation
Status: Exempt, Full-Time
Salary: $160,000 - $200,000/Annually DOE

POSITION SUMMARY
The DevOps Manager is a pivotal leader responsible for architecting, developing, and optimizing proprietary software and data platforms. This role blends strategic vision with hands-on technical execution, driving innovation in AI, data strategy, and automation. The manager will mentor cross-functional teams, champion operational excellence, and ensure that technology initiatives directly support business growth and transformation.

STRATEGIC IMPACT
This role is critical to enabling smarter, faster decisions through reliable data, scalable systems, and empowered teams. The DevOps Manager ensures that the organization’s technology infrastructure is robust, efficient, and strategically aligned, driving innovation and supporting long-term business growth.

Key Responsibilities
1. Software & Vendor Integration
  • Architect, develop, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performance proprietary software systems aligned with evolving business needs.
  • Lead hands-on coding, troubleshooting, and resolution of complex technical issues, setting the standard for code quality and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot data discrepancies, system performance issues, and user feedback, implementing enhancements based on evolving requirements.
  • Evaluate, select, and integrate external vendor software and AI solutions, ensuring seamless interoperability with enterprise architecture.
  • Build and sustain collaborative relationships with vendor technical teams to resolve integration challenges, optimize solution performance, and ensure reliable operation.
  • Help ensure secure data exchange protocols and privacy compliance across all platforms.
  • Continuously monitor and assess vendor solutions for scalability, reliability, support, and strategic fit, recommending upgrades or replacements as needed.
2. AI Strategy & Implementation
  • Partner with Director of Product Innovation to define, refine, and execute the company’s AI strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives and ethical standards.
  • Lead research, prototyping, and deployment of AI/ML models to enhance product capabilities, automate processes, and unlock new business value.
  • Develop and present proof-of-concept projects to demonstrate AI impact and guide future investments.
  • Evaluate, integrate, and optimize third-party AI platforms, ensuring responsible use, data privacy, and bias mitigation.
  • Support establishment and enforcement protocols for secure data exchange and compliance when leveraging external AI platforms.
3. Data & Analytics Platform Development
  • Support the planning, design, and development of a centralized data warehouse for advanced reporting, analytics, and business intelligence.
  • Design, implement, and optimize ETL pipelines for efficient data movement, transformation, and integration.
  • Collaborate with vendor data engineers and analysts to ensure robust data models, reporting infrastructure, and actionable insights.
  • Oversee the Power BI reporting group, providing leadership and direction to ensure the development, enhancement, and maintenance of both new and existing Power BI reports.
  • Establish best practices for report design and drive adoption of Power BI across the organization.
  • Explore and recommend better mechanisms for report distribution and adoption, including leveraging Power BI’s capabilities for automated delivery, interactive dashboards, and user training.
  • Explore emerging technologies and methodologies to future-proof the organization’s reporting and analytics infrastructure.
4. Security, Governance & Performance
  • Implement and maintain secure access protocols, user authentication mechanisms, and data governance frameworks in partnership with IT.
  • Ensure compliance with privacy standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Proactively monitor and optimize system and query performance, addressing bottlenecks and ensuring high availability and reliability.
  • Create and/or maintain documentation for data flows, APIs, system dependencies, and integration points.
5. Team Leadership & Mentorship
  • Mentor and empower team members in best practices for report design, data visualization, coding, and automation.
  • Foster a collaborative, innovative, and inclusive team culture that values continuous learning and improvement.
  • Set and enforce standards for dashboard usability, data quality, and alignment with business goals.
6. Process Automation & Efficiency
  • In partnership with the Continuous Improvement team, identify, design, and implement automation opportunities using Power Automate or similar tools to streamline workflows and reduce manual effort.
  • Champion initiatives that accelerate time-to-insight, improve data accessibility, and drive operational efficiency across the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 10 years of experience in software development, preferably with proprietary systems.
  • Strong proficiency in modern programming languages (e.g., C#, Python, JavaScript, .NET).
  • Experience with AI/ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Azure AI).
  • Familiarity with data warehouse technologies (e.g., SQL Server, Microsoft Fabric OneLake).
  • Hands-on experience with Power BI and Power Automate is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and mentoring skills.
PREFERRED SKILLS
  • Experience mentoring junior developers or analysts.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure preferred).
  • Experience working with Microsoft Fabric for unified data analytics and reporting solutions.
  • Deep understanding of data modeling, ETL processes, and agile development methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive cross-functional collaboration and deliver strategic technology initiatives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Use standard office equipment, including: computer, multiple web-based applications, smartphone, tablet, copier/scanner, etc.
  • Be stationary for periods of time.
  • Relocate up to (25) pounds.
  • Travel to and from offsite locations.

SCHEDULE & TRAVEL
  • Monday-Friday from approx. 8:00 am-5:00 pm
  • This position may require occasional long hours to meet business needs
  • Up to approx. 10% domestic (including occasional overnight) travel annually
