Senior Structural Engineer

As a Senior Structural Engineer in 's Transportation Design group, you'll have the opportunity to lead the structural design effort on projects of varying scope and complexity throughout Minnesota and nationally. You will have the opportunity to work closely with MnDOT and contractors on high profile, local Design-Build (DB), Construction Manager/General Contractor (CMGC), and traditional design projects. Utilize your technical expertise to design bridges, retaining walls, overhead sign structures, and other miscellaneous structures; compute and check design calculations; and oversee the development of plans, specifications, and cost estimates. Apply your management skills to develop and lead a team of engineers and technicians. Leverage your industry network to identify project opportunities, engage current and potential clients, and develop proposals.

Responsibilities:

As an experienced structural engineer at , you will independently apply structural engineering principles and techniques. Your excellent technical, written and oral communication skills will lend your expertise in writing proposals, scopes of work and preparing project budgets. Other duties include:

• Structural design of steel, prestressed concrete, and cast-in-place concrete bridges

1. Preliminary and final bridge plan development
2. Development of quantity calculations, cost estimates and project specifications
3. Design of minor structural elements of infrastructure projects, such as retaining walls, sign supports, and drainage structures.
4. Perform Quality Control functions of structural design and calculations generated by others
5. Actively engage in business development activities, including client contacts, project tracking, team development, and proposal writing.
6. Mentor less experienced team members to grow in their technical, business development, and project managements skills.
7. Collaborate with roadway, drainage, geotechnical and other disciplines to deliver high-quality project deliverables.

Required Experience:

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with a Structural Engineering emphasis

1. 10 years of experience in bridge and transportation structures design
2. Minnesota Professional Engineer (PE) License, or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment
3. Strong working knowledge of structural analysis software such as CSiBridge, LARSA 4D, MIDAS, STAAD, Bentley OpenBridge Designer as well as Bentley OpenRoads CAD software
4. Strong knowledge of AASHTO LRFD and MnDOT policies and procedures
5. Experience in proposal writing and development of structural project scopes, schedules, and budgets
6. Excellent analytical and problem solving capabilities, organization and multitasking skills

Preferred Experience:

• Bridge ratings in AASHTOWare Bridge Rating (formerly known as Virtis)

1. MnDOT Bridge Inspection Team Leader certification.
2. Post-tensioned concrete design and detailing.
