This is a temporary role, based in Queenstown, Maryland.
Pay Rate: $20/hour
Time: 8 Family Camp weekend sessions, totaling 32 days from May to October 2026. 8 hour shifts each day of programming.
Organization Description:
Founded in 1988 by Paul Newman, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp provides "a different kind of healing" to thousands of children with serious illnesses and their families annually - all completely free of charge. For many of these children and families, Hole in the Wall provides multiple Camp experiences throughout the year at the facility in Ashford, Conn, in dozens of hospitals and clinics, directly in camper homes and communities and through other outreach activities across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.
Position Description:
Seasonal Security Guards ensure a safe, welcoming environment for campers, families, volunteers, and staff. As the first point of contact, they maintain a warm, friendly demeanor while monitoring access to camp property.
Our Seasonal Security Guard can expect to...
- Monitor entry and exit points, greeting guests with warmth.
- Perform routine security checks and patrols.
- Alert leadership to suspicious activity or safety concerns.
- Maintain visitor logs and incident records.
- Support emergency response procedures.
- Provide a reassuring, friendly presence for families and volunteers.
- Help foster a safe, inclusive, respectful environment.
- Communicate observations and updates to leadership.
- Attend and participate in required pre-season on-site training.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Our Seasonal Security Guard should have...
- Prior security guard experience is desirable, but not required.
- The ability to establish positive relationships with a variety of people in multicultural environments.
- Strong observational skills; calm under pressure.
- Warm, friendly demeanor when welcoming visitors.
- Effective interpersonal skills and a willingness to engage and become a part of our residential programming community.
- The ability to follow and enforce safety and emergency protocols.
- A willingness and ability to comply with all camp policies, including providing medical and vaccine information to ensure the safety of our medically compromised campers.
- A commitment to fostering a community that celebrates inclusivity and our camp values, which are inclusion, gratitude, possibility, friendship and safety.
- A minimum age of 18, as required for this role.
- A valid Driver's license and driving record which meets HITWG insurance carrier requirements.
- A willingness and ability to patrol outdoor areas, including extended periods of standing and/or walking, and in variable weather conditions.
- A willingness and ability to commit to a seasonal employment schedule that consists of 8 Family Camp weekend sessions, totaling 32 days from May – October 2026 (8 hour shifts each day of programinmg).
