Founded in 1988 by Paul Newman, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp provides "a different kind of healing" to thousands of children with serious illnesses and their families annually - all completely free of charge. For many of these children and families, Hole in the Wall provides multiple Camp experiences throughout the year at the facility in Ashford, Conn, in dozens of hospitals and clinics, directly in camper homes and communities and through other outreach activities across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.
Position Description:
The Regional Director of Maryland will serve as an inspiring and passionate leader responsible for the oversight of all Camp programming, including facilities and food services, originating from the Maryland Campus. The Regional Director will lead and build the capabilities of the program and facilities team and will work with the Chief Program Officer (CPO) to help enrich and evaluate programming as well as envision future program directions emanating from Queenstown. The Regional Director will integrate into Camp’s culture an appreciation for and reliance on feedback and data to ensure the highest quality performance of programs and will be an excellent spokesperson and communicator.

- Oversee all operations emanating from the Maryland Queenstown Campus. Ensure excellence across the board with programmatic expressions. Work closely with the Camp Director to design and evaluate programs and identify needs for improvement and enhancement.
- Lead Queenstown based meetings, serve as the primary point person for the CPO and executive team for all Maryland related business (including development needs).
- Responsible for program summary reports as directed by CPO including board reports, grant narratives, etc. (assessing current program performance and identifying new growth opportunities).
- Work with the CPO and direct reports to set annual goals and operational plans.
- Work collaboratively, and serve as primary point person, with the development team for all Queenstown based development events.
- Develop and assess objective performance measurements to ensure consistent, high quality evaluation, goal setting, and continued improvement in programs delivered.
- Coordinate with Camp director to routinely collect stakeholder feedback to enhance existing programs and envision new initiatives.
- Oversee annual performance review process for all Queenstown employees.
- Work with direct reports to identify and implement training and wellness programs to develop capacity of all staff.
- Report to the CPO on development of annual objectives and budgets and the status of the work on the Queenstown team to accomplish those objectives.
- Participate actively in programs and services developing a broad and deep knowledge of all programs.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and laws and maintain accreditation standards for membership in various organizations.
- In conjunction with database administrators, oversee use and maintenance of CRM database infrastructure (i.e. recordkeeping, webforms, community member engagement platforms and content, etc.) to ensure timely and effective adherence.
- In conjunction with the CPO and research and evaluation consultant(s), implement measurement tools to evaluate program success and stakeholder satisfaction for Camp programs. Develop an implement changes to further improve and grow programs.
- Lead, coach and develop an inspired and high-performance team by exemplifying thoroughness, thoughtfulness, accountability, positive attitude, openness, trust, and compassion.
- Work closely with team members and the Chief Financial Officer on the creation of the Queenstown budgets and other general financial matters, with continual analysis of identification of cost savings opportunities.
- Oversee food service operation (catering) including menu creation, budget, regulatory compliance, vendor relations, and maintenance of equipment. Ensure that food service provides delicious, nutritional, and cost-effective meals to all participants.
- Oversee facilities management to ensure that buildings and grounds meet Camp’s program needs and are attractive, safe, and in compliance with all building codes and other regulations.
- Work in concert with CPO on the development of the organization's phase 2 planning for the full build out of an independent camper site.
- Assist with special projects and perform additional duties as assigned.
Our Regional Program Director - Maryland should have...
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience in program management, environmental and outdoor education; minimum five years’ supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated experience in program delivery and oversight, leading cross-functional teams, and managing multiple projects simultaneously with changing priorities and tight deadlines.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in education, psychology, social work, or other related field. Master’s Degree strongly preferred.
- The ability to establish positive relationships with a variety of people in multicultural environments.
- A familiarity with key software and database resources (e.g. Microsoft Office, Salesforce, FormAssembly, etc.) and adaptable digital skills
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and written and oral communication skills.
- Most working hours will be spent in a typical office environment. Must be able to operate computer for most of workday with appropriate rest periods.
- Base office is in Queenstown, Maryland. Ability to work remote will be discussed - primarily will need to be on site. Monday-Friday normal schedule with availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
- A valid Driver's license and driving record which meets HITWG insurance carrier requirements. Ability to travel to assigned worksites.
