What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Accountant position at The Hiring Advisors?
Let’s cut to it—if you’re in public accounting and tired of feeling like just another line item on a timesheet… this might be your sign.
We’re working with a well-respected accounting firm that wants a Senior Accountant who can actually own their work, talk to clients like a human, and not wait around for someone to tell them what to do next.
Translation: no micromanaging, no babysitting—just trust and real responsibility.
What You’ll Actually Be Doing
- Run your own client engagements from kickoff to final deliverables (yes, you’re in charge)
- Handle the core stuff: GL, financials, payroll filings, and all the accounting magic in between
- Be the go-to person clients rely on (aka: answer questions, fix problems, be a hero)
- Review work from junior staff and help them level up (you were them once 👀)
- Keep projects on track and flag issues before they become “uh-oh” moments
- Apply accounting tax knowledge to real client situations (not just textbook scenarios)
- Research tricky issues and break them down into actual, usable advice
- Jump into special projects like cash flow analysis, projections, and random client asks
- Support audits when needed—plan, review, execute
- Make life easier for managers/partners by being that reliable person
- Help onboard new clients as the firm keeps growing
What You Bring
- 2 years in public accounting (or something very close to it)
- Bachelor’s in Accounting (or related) with solid accounting coursework
- CPA in progress or already secured = major plus
- You actually understand financial statements—not just how to format them
- Comfortable reviewing other people’s work without being awkward about it
- Experience with tools like QuickBooks (or similar platforms)
- You can juggle multiple deadlines without spiraling
- You communicate like a real person, not a robot
Why This Role Hits Different
- You’ll own your work instead of just assisting
- Direct client interaction = faster growth more impact
- Less “busy work,” more meaningful projects
- A team that values initiative (aka: if you’re good, you’ll be trusted)
This is for someone who:
- Doesn’t need constant check-ins
- Wants to grow fast
- Actually likes working with clients (or at least doesn’t avoid them 😅)
