What are the responsibilities and job description for the DSP / Independent Living skills Trainer position at The Goodkind Group, LLC?
We are seeking an Independent Living Skills Trainer to work temp-perm Wednesday and Thursday 9a-3p in Jamaica, Queens.
A. Position Summary:
Provides Medicaid Waiver Services to people with Developmental Disabilities in community based settings, predominately where they work or volunteer. Teaching skills enabling people supported to live and function independently in the community.
B. Position Duties:
1. Provides training in accordance with valued outcomes specified by each specific Program Plan and Life Plan.
2. Provides training in the areas of each person’s daily life such as socialization, travel training, budgeting, shopping, and work related skills development.
3. Ensures the safety and security of the persons receiving services while considering the specific needs and limitations of each person receiving service.
4. Ensures that each person’s personal care needs are met, such as feeding and toileting, in situations where the person lack the capacity to independently perform these functions. (Toileting in emergency situations)
5. Completes documentation of services, along with specific progress notes, and submits to Program Manager/Program Supervisor or Associate Director upon request. ( Data is completed in Precision Care)
6. Provides timely services that are in accordance with each person’s set schedule so as to ensure consistency and the respect of each person receiving services.
7. Responds to the concerns of team members and provides necessary information when requested.
8. Performs all duties as assigned.
C. Requirements:
1. High School Diploma.
2. One year of HHA or DSP experience providing training of persons with Developmental Disabilities preferred. Equivalent training/caregiving experience with other disability groups who have basic skills training needs, is acceptable.
3. Good inter-personal, verbal-writing skills and be personal computer proficient with Microsoft Word.
4. Performs all job responsibilities in full compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Adheres to the agency’s corporate compliance program, including the code of business conduct, the NYS and federal false claims acts, whistleblower protections and mandatory reporting. Completes corporate compliance training at least annually. Fully cooperates in all corporate compliance investigations and reviews.
