Position Information
Job Title: Volunteer Manager
Program/Dept: Advancement and Culture

Manager: Associate Director of Development
This is a salaried position 40 hours a week with a competitive benefits package, including health care coverage, dental, etc. This position is a combination of in-office work at The Food Group’s New Hope location and warehouse and off-site in the community. The salary range is $55,000-$58,700 per year.
JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for managing, developing, and improving The Food Group’s volunteer program to support our programs and community impact. Areas of volunteer program oversight include warehouse, office, produce reclamation, Big River Farms, offsite Fare for All and Twin Cities Mobile Market projects, special projects, and garden/outdoor maintenance. The Volunteer Manager collaborates closely with TFG staff across teams and is a key external facing representative of the organization to community supporters. This position has one full-time year round and two part-time seasonal direct reports.
CORE JOB FUNCTION
Volunteer Program Administration & Management (70%)
- Create and manage annual program goals, conduct ongoing evaluation of all volunteer areas, and implement improvements as needed.
- Design and work with Volunteer Team to deliver engaging programs for new and existing volunteers.
- Partner with all stakeholders to establish standard operating practices, policies, and systems for the volunteer program.
- Support team and work cross-departmentally to identify, plan and prioritize volunteer projects to meet organizational, volunteer, and community needs.
- Work collaboratively with staff to develop work plans and ensure that all team members have a clear understanding of their goals.
- Provide ongoing supervision and coaching for team members.
- Oversee recruitment and training of volunteers.
- Develop and manage a budget for the volunteer program.
- Lead volunteer data management, maintaining current records and documentation of volunteer activities in monthly dashboard, Raiser’s Edge database, Volunteer Hub, and various trackers with substantial support of other team members. Utilize volunteer data to inform strategy.
- All other duties as assigned.
Volunteer Engagement, Outreach, Strategy (30%)
- Supervise volunteer activities in coordination with other staff.
- Provide a positive, meaningful, and quality volunteer experience for individuals and groups.
- Work with team to enhance volunteer experience and improve retention and engagement rates.
- Manage all volunteer communication and scheduling, maintaining a current calendar and volunteer hub. Lead production of volunteer newsletter and other general volunteer communications.
- Address any issues or conflicts that may arise among volunteers and organizations.

Minimum Education and Experience
- 2-4 year college degree or equivalent experience.
- At least one year of experience as a supervisor
- Experience in non-profit work, volunteer management, or a related field for 3 years preferred.
- Preferred: at least one season working at a farmers’ market, farm, or orchard.
Licenses and/or Certifications
- Valid MN driver’s license and clean driving record. Dependable transportation is required for local travel to businesses, farms, farmers markets and partner sites.
WORK CONDITION
This position is typically based out of a dog-friendly office setting, with some remote and off-site work. This position works some normal businesses hours but includes some evenings and weekends to accommodate volunteer availability. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds if needed. Must have ability to both sit and stand for long periods of time and utilize various office equipment (e.g., computer, phone, and calculator) on a continual basis. Ability to train on warehouse/farm equipment as needed.
