What are the responsibilities and job description for the Event Support Volunteer position at Volunteer Opportunities?
Position Summary:
The Event Support Volunteer works alongside Goodwill-Easter Seals Minnesota (GESMN) staff to carry out community-based and/or private events to raise awareness around GESMN’s mission.
Schedule & Time Commitment
- Dates and times vary by event. Volunteer shifts typically span 2-4 hours, depending on the event.
- Once approved to volunteer, Event Support Volunteers self-schedule their shifts, based on organizational needs and volunteer preference.
Volunteer Responsibilities:
Event Support
- Support the logistics of events under the direction of GESMN staff.
- Remain at assigned event area for the duration of the shift.
- Provide exceptional service for and interaction with participants and guests.
- Provide information to guests throughout the event.
- Volunteer activities vary by event and may include:
- Event setup and/or clean-up
- Greeters: Welcome guests and point them to registration, amenities, and activities
- Registration: Welcome and register guests, collect required information, distribute event materials, direct guests to amenities and activities. If needed, ask guests to sign photo release waivers, encourage and assist guests in taking photos throughout the event, and secure other documentation needs.
- Parking: Help guests with parking, provide information about accessing the event, and serve as way finders for groups.
- Food: distribute meals to guests, often with the option of food prep, cooking and/or serving.
- Activities: Host games or other specialized activities for guests, including young people and/or family groups
Other Duties
- Responsible for being familiar with and adhering to GESMN’s code of ethics, volunteer policies, and role-specific safety procedures set forth by Human Resources and GESMN executive team.
- Serve as an ambassador for GESMN by supporting the organization’s mission, vision, and values.
About You – Knowledge & Skills:
- Strong communication skills.
- Familiarity with age-appropriate engagement with children, adolescence, and families preferred.
- Understand how to create welcoming experiences for people of varying backgrounds and experience levels, including justice-impacted individuals and their families.
- Must pass a criminal background check.
- Welcome orientation required either in-person or virtual before first shift.
- Training required in-person and virtual before each shift.
