Mechanical Quality Inspector

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Quality Inspector to support quality assurance and inspection activities within a growing industrial automation manufacturing environment. This position plays a critical role in ensuring products and processes meet customer requirements, engineering specifications, and regulatory standards.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on mechanical inspection experience as well as proven expertise managing quality documentation, supporting Quality Management Systems (QMS), and working within highly regulated manufacturing environments such as medical devices, life sciences, or other ISO-regulated industries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform incoming, in-process, first article, and final mechanical inspections on precision components, assemblies, and automated equipment.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, assembly drawings, BOMs, and specifications to verify product conformance.
  • Utilize precision measurement equipment including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, indicators, bore gauges, comparators, and other metrology tools.
  • Generate and maintain inspection records, First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs), nonconformance reports (NCRs), and quality documentation.
  • Review and manage quality records to ensure compliance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Support and maintain the Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with applicable standards such as ISO 9001 and ISO 13485.
  • Assist with document control activities including procedures, work instructions, inspection plans, forms, and revision management.
  • Participate in internal audits, corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), root cause investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Quality teams to resolve quality issues and drive process improvements.
  • Support supplier quality activities and incoming material inspections as required.
  • Ensure traceability, calibration compliance, and proper maintenance of inspection equipment.

Required Qualifications

  • 3 years of quality inspection experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience performing mechanical inspections on machined parts, assemblies, or electromechanical products.
  • Strong understanding of Quality Management Systems (QMS) and quality documentation practices.
  • Experience within a regulated industry such as medical device, life sciences, aerospace, or other highly controlled manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Proficiency with standard inspection and metrology equipment.
  • Experience documenting nonconformances, CAPAs, deviations, and corrective actions.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 13485, or comparable quality standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and electronic quality systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting industrial automation, robotics, motion control, or precision instrumentation products.
  • Internal auditor training or quality certifications (ASQ CQI, CQT, etc.).
  • Experience with ERP, MES, or electronic document management systems.
  • Understanding of risk management, PFMEA, control plans, and statistical quality methodologies.
  • Experience creating inspection plans and quality procedures.
