What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Staff - HVAC Preferred position at The Center School?
Center School and the Positive Regard Network seek candidates for the position of Maintenance Staff. Position offers a competitive pay rate and benefit package and 12 month employment. Hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3 p.m., 40 hours per week, plus availability for mandatory snow removal during winter which may include evenings, early mornings, weekends, vacation weeks and holidays.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; trade school certification a plus. Must provide proof upon hire.
Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, small engine repair and carpentry systems. There is a strong preference for candidates with proficiency in heating, ventilation, cooling and electrical work.
Ability to read and interpret manuals, blueprints, and technical documents.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Good communication and interpersonal skills required.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
2 years of experience in building maintenance or similar role preferred.
OSHA certification or other relevant safety training preferred.
The Maintenance Staff assures that school buildings and grounds are maintained on a daily basis to assure a safe school learning environment for students and staff members; may also work with students as appropriate to provide vocational training and experiential job placement, whereby students can have real world job experience.
Maintain a thorough knowledge of all schools and facilities
Maintenance members may be involved in work relating to preventative maintenance, repairs and improvements to doors, locks, furniture, walls, windows, roofing, flooring, ceilings, vehicles, hvac, electrical, plumbing, lighting, fences, playgrounds, ect.
Ability to organize projects and purchase materials as needed to complete various projects.
Collaborate with the supervisor and maintenance team to assess projected needs, manage expenditures, and coordinate contracts. Work as part of a team to prioritize tasks, plan major projects, renovations, and improvements, and ensure their successful completion.
Ensure compliance with safety standards and local building codes.
Skilled and experienced in operating various power tools and equipment, such as table saw, drill, chainsaw, lawnmower, leaf blower, circular saw, etc.
Responsible for promptly addressing any safety concerns or urgent maintenance issues impacting students and/or staff, including being available outside of regular hours if necessary.
Ensure cleanliness and safety of school grounds, playgrounds, walkways, parking lots.
Assists with the removal of snow and ice when necessary. Reports to work on snow cancellation days, vacation days or weekends, as requested, to assist in snow removal, by way of shoveling, snowblowing, salting and removing snow and ice from vehicles. *Skid steer, plow, or salter experience a plus.
Provide training to janitorial/maintenance staff and vocational students on the safe and proper use of maintenance equipment and materials, as needed.
Building and installation of various school equipment and furniture.
Serve as a contact person with various outside vendors and contractors as requested.
Assist if necessary with with receiving shipments and items
Participate in regular supervision with Supervisor and maintain a commitment to professional development.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors Related to Performing the Essential Function of the Position: Meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform assigned duties, including frequent and repetitive standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling; regular lifting, frequent and repetitive positioning and/or therapeutic restraint of students; possible exposure to bodily fluids. This job requires heavy lifting (50 pounds), often for several hours at a time, such as shoveling of snow during snow storms. Requires working outside in very hot or cold weather at times. Requires the ability to stand or walk for long periods, as well as climb on ladders and use tools as required.
