Role Description
Provide day-to-day oversight and direction to the foremen and field personnel assigned to on-site construction projects. He or she is responsible for construction oversight, scheduling, quality, and safety assurance for field construction work on land development projects.
- Prepare for project startup with the Field Operations Manager and Project Manager. Execute project activities as required to meet day-to-day and overall objectives/schedule.
- Understand and apply the requirements in project documents about quality control procedures such as testing, shop drawings, material approvals, samples, mockups, execution of the work, etc.
- Become familiar with each job estimate for general condition items and follow the direction of the Field Operations Manager about performing work within the boundaries of the estimate.
- Keep the Field Operations Manager informed of any change in activity or cost before incurring additional time or materials outside the project scope.
- Provide input on scheduling and placement of production crews. Plan and review the construction project weekly with the Field Operations Manager and Project Manager. Supervise the scheduling and completion of warranty issues.
- Assist the field operations manager in preparing progress schedules, keeping them correctly updated, and ensuring that everything feasible is done for the project to meet the required dates.
- Support the Field Operations Manager in ensuring timely on-site delivery of materials and equipment furnished by the Company and subcontractors.
- Direct and train the foremen and field staff to ensure continued development by using performance evaluations, varying assignments, and promoting positive project morale.
- Work with Field Operations Manager to establish and maintain good safety and security practices for the entire project in accordance with applicable safety codes and regulations.
- Develop final punch lists and ensure all project tasks are completed, and the project is closed out expediently.
- Coordinate the acceptance of improvements from municipalities and agencies.
- Thoroughly understand plans and specifications and manage field construction contract changes.
- Arrange for the proper sequencing of work to minimize overall durations, rework and conflicts.
- Build and maintain relationships with municipalities, agencies and trade partners.
Qualifications
- 3 to 5 years' experience as a superintendent (3 years in charge of a project as a superintendent). High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- OSHA 10-hour (preferred), OSHA 30-hour, HAZWOPER certificate.
- Excavating Safety Training, Blueprint Training, CPR, First Aid.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policies, reports, construction plans, specifications, and legal documents.
- Ability to use Microsoft Outlook, iPad, and iPhone.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and written with employees and other business associates regarding project needs and scheduling.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
- Topcon GPS or equal experience preferred.
- Confined Space Entry, Flagging, Rigging, Competent Person Training.
- Must understand work direction and communicate effectively with management and fellow employees.
- Ability to supervise earthwork/site utility construction projects from general plans and instructions and to determine the proper amounts of materials, tools, and personal equipment needed.
- Must be able to maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.
