Position Summary:
This position exists to support the Budget Director, AVP for Finance, CFO, and the university with various types of analysis, forecasting and modeling to meet university management’s need for information for decision making in UNC’s on-going financial planning and budgeting processes. This position supports specific areas of the university in developing their financial plans, which includes multi-year financial planning, annual budgeting and quarterly financial forecasts.
Job Duties:
20% Design and maintenance of university-wide
forecasting and budgeting modules to assist with short-range financial planning
of the University. This process includes researching, planning, budgeting,
forecasting, analysis and reporting.
50% Responsible for working directly with
assigned areas of the university to provide consultation and support in the
development of their annual budget, quarterly current estimates, and multi-year
financial projections. Provide high
level support to these areas, review information for reasonableness and
adherence to policies and procedures. Prepare summaries and analysis for
executive level presentations and decision making. This position
prepares sections of the consolidated budget book for approval by the Board of Trustees.
30% Responsible for assigned portions of the quarterly financial reporting for the Board of Trustees’ Finance and Audit committee meetings, reporting to the
State of Colorado, any other required reporting, and performing financial analysis for special projects as assigned. Financial reporting and analysis requires forecasting financial results, analyzing trends, explaining variances from
the annual budget, and reviewing year-to-date financial information. Reporting
and analysis requires summarizing
complex information clearly, succinctly and efficiently for executive
presentations utilizing graphics, when appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications:
B.S. in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration is preferred.
Two to four years of experience in a budget analyst position that requires substantial analytical, forecasting and modeling skills is preferred.
Experience in budgeting or an analyst position in a higher education institution is highly preferred. A basic to intermediate level of accounting knowledge through work experience or education is required.
Experience that demonstrates the analytical ability to combine financial and non-financial data into analysis for management decision making.
Experience that demonstrates excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
Knowledge of report writing tools and relational databases is preferred.
Excellent skills with Microsoft excel required.
Excellent analytical and communication skills, both written and verbal are required
