Position Description
The Department of Organization, Workforce, and Leadership Studies (OWLS) at Texas State University is seeking an exemplary and visionary Lecturer to join us in preparing reflective and equity-driven leaders to thrive in today’s global workforce. The Lecturer position is a full-time, non-tenure track, nine-month appointment, with specialized knowledge to teach and prepare students specifically for rotorcraft piloting careers, aligned with FAA Airman Certification Standards for private and commercial helicopter ratings. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, teaching core courses that are integral to the Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS) degree program and related high demand focus areas.

Specific duties include:
  • Teach undergraduate aviation courses in the OWLS Department in an online, in-person, or hybrid delivery system.
  • Work remotely with some travel to in-person events, to teach hybrid courses and some required in-person office hours.
  • Assist with updating and creating new undergraduate curriculum related to aviation. An ideal candidate will provide evidence of outstanding teaching experience in higher education.


All positions are subject to availability of funds.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Rotary-wing rating, specifically a helicopter class.
  • Private pilot license (PPL) or Commercial pilot license (CPL).
  • Certified ground instructor (CGI) or Certified flight instructor (CFI).
  • Instrument rating or Certified flight instructor with Instrument rating (CFII).
  • At least two years of flight experience or 100 hours of private flight time.
  • Experience teaching online, asynchronous, or synchronous courses.
  • Specialization degree in Aviation Science, Aviation Engineering/Management, and/or Aeronautical Engineering with Professional Pilot License and other Flight Certifications approved by the FAA.
  • Experience teaching online or hybrid/blended format at university level or documented training in teaching online.
  • Higher education teaching experience in a high-demand occupational area (e.g., Private Aircraft Operations, Instrument Flight Rules for Aviation, Principals and Methods of Flight Instruction, Theory of Multi-Engine Aircraft Operations, Theory of Commercial Flight).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in aviation and/or education discipline.
  • Experience with online curriculum development in Canvas.
  • Three or more years of teaching experience in K-12, two-year or four-year college or university.
