What are the responsibilities and job description for the Anesthesia Technician position at TEXAS INSTITUTE FOR SURGERY?
The Anesthesia Technician is responsible for supporting and assisting the OR team to meet the needs of individuals and groups of patients within the OR. Responsible for assisting the anesthesia team by preparing and maintaining anesthesia equipment and supplies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists the OR team with patient care delivery under the direction of the RN, surgeon, anesthesiologist, or other clinical staff.
- Prepares, cleans, tests, and maintains anesthesia machines, monitors, and related equipment. Performs daily equipment checks, troubleshoots issues, and escalates maintenance needs as appropriate.
- Assists anesthesia providers during induction, maintenance, and emergence of anesthesia.
- Assembles, calibrates, and assists with the indirect placement of central, peripheral venous, and arterial invasive monitoring lines. Assists with the setup and support of regional anesthesia blocks.
- Sets up intravenous lines, airway devices, and monitoring systems as requested, maintaining strict aseptic technique.
- Stocks and maintains anesthesia carts, trays, and supply rooms. Ensures adequate availability of necessary supplies and initiates reorders as needed.
- Demonstrates basic working knowledge of anesthesia vital signs, monitoring equipment, gas machines, and ventilators.
- Identifies potential safety hazards and responds appropriately to ensure patient and staff safety.
- Assists with lifting, positioning, and transferring patients as needed, and supports safe use and assembly of patient beds.
- Assists with room turnover by performing designated cleaning tasks and ensures proper cleaning or disposal of used equipment in accordance with infection control protocols.
- Education & Training:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Experience:
- 1-3 years experience in a fast paced multi-specialty hospital or surgery center is required.
- Licensure/Certification/Registration:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required
- ASATT Certification preferred
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license as employees may occasionally be required to operate a company vehicle. Reasonable accommodations may be provided as required by law.
- Key Skills:
- Thorough understanding of aseptic techniques, proper use of medical equipment, and established patient safety protocols.
- Ability to flex: work rotating shifts as needed to meet the needs of the surgery schedule. Take call as needed.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task and work in fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work with limited supervision.
