As part of the commissioners' office, you would support the commissioners as they establish overall agency direction and policy and make their final determinations on contested permitting and enforcement matters. See details about what we do.

This position is a member of our Office of the Chief Clerk.

Here's What You'll Be Doing

  • Evaluate and draft instructions for Motions and cover letters for Executive Director's Response to Comments; and ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with state and federal regulations, policies, and guidelines.
  • Evaluate orders, permits, licenses and registrations issued as a result of Commission and Executive Director's action, and notices of the State Office Administrative Hearings (SOAH) hearings to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with state and federal regulations, policies, and guidelines; and provide rule and policy guidelines for applicants, their representatives, and the general public.
  • Maintain the Commissioner's Integrated Database to update the status of hearings and authorizations and generate reports.
  • Determine deadlines for notice and issuance actions and calculate timeframes, prepare related documents, determine appropriate distribution, and disseminate them as required by specific procedural rules, statutes, and policies.
  • Provide technical assistance related to hearings and authorization requirements to agency staff, the regulated community, the general public, and governmental entities.
  • Assist with training new staff regarding specific program procedures, policies, rules and regulations and databases. Help test databases as needed.

Key Qualifications

  • Experience reviewing documents for accuracy and compliance with statutes, regulations, and policies.
  • Experience entering information into and retrieving information from databases.
  • Experience communicating procedural, regulatory, or technical requirements with internal and external customers.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from a standard senior high school or its equivalent plus five years of full-time experience performing administrative and/or technical support activities.

Fifteen semester hours of accredited college work may be substituted for each six months of the required experience.

Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. See Tex. Business & Commerce Code Section 117.001(2). Accordingly, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a requirement to be hired for and to continue to be employed with TCEQ.

Work Schedule

Standard business hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Individual and work group schedule determined by the TCEQ Office of the Chief Clerk.
