Field Engineer

About the Role:

We develop wireless communication and safety systems that must perform reliably in some of the most challenging environments. We are looking for a Systems Field Engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, working across multiple engineering disciplines, and seeing their work operate in the field.

This is a hands-on, mid-level engineering role with responsibility for integrating, testing, deploying, and improving our products and systems. You will work across RF communications, hardware, embedded software, application software, and networking to understand how the complete system performs. You will investigate challenging field issues, identify root causes, and work directly with engineering teams and customers to develop and validate solutions.

This role is well suited for an engineer who does not want to be limited to one component of a product. You will work in the laboratory, participate in product development, support customer deployments, and help shape how our systems are tested and improved. The position includes travel to customer and test locations, including underground mining and other industrial environments, up to 30% of the time.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Plan and execute system integration, verification, and performance testing for company products.
• Evaluate complete systems across RF, hardware, embedded software, application software, networking, and external interfaces.
• Support system installation, configuration, commissioning, and validation at customer locations.
• Perform RF measurements and analyze system coverage, connectivity, reliability, and overall performance.
• Investigate complex field issues by gathering customer information, reproducing reported behavior, reviewing system data, and isolating root causes.
• Work directly with systems, software, hardware, and test engineers to develop solutions and verify corrective actions.
• Translate field observations and customer needs into clear technical findings, system requirements, and product-improvement recommendations.
• Develop test plans, test procedures, system configurations, field reports, and other technical documentation.
• Communicate technical findings and recommendations clearly to customers, engineering teams, and company leadership.
• Provide technical training and product briefings to customers and field personnel.
• Help develop representative system test environments and improve tools and methods for system-level testing.
• Build a strong understanding of underground mining operations and other customer environments in which our systems are deployed.
• Research, evaluate, and implement new engineering tools and technologies that improve system development, testing, troubleshooting, and field support.
• Identify repeatable engineering and testing activities that can be automated, and develop practical solutions to improve efficiency, consistency, and product quality.
• Use AI-assisted tools thoughtfully and responsibly to accelerate research, analysis, documentation, troubleshooting, and automation, while protecting company and customer information and applying appropriate engineering review and judgment.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Five or more years of relevant engineering experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with RF communications, data communications, wireless systems, networking, or field telecommunications.
• Hands-on experience integrating and troubleshooting systems that include hardware and software components.
• Working knowledge of RF fundamentals, including propagation, antennas, link budgets, system configurations, and measurement techniques.
• Demonstrated ability to investigate complex technical problems, identify root causes, and drive issues through resolution.
• Ability to independently plan and complete technical work while collaborating effectively across engineering disciplines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work directly with customers in technical situations.
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 30%, including work at underground mine sites and other industrial or operational locations.
• Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenships, required due to current clearance status.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience deploying or supporting wireless systems in mining, industrial, military, public-safety, or other mission-critical environments.
• Experience using RF test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, power meters, or signal generators.
• Experience working with IP networking, serial communication, data protocols, and system interfaces.
• Experience developing system test plans, field procedures, installation documentation, or technical training materials.
• Experience using RF coverage-planning, system-modeling, or equipment-layout tools.
• Secret security clearance (preferred).
