We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer / Construction Manager (CM) to oversee the successful execution of electrical distribution systems on a major construction project. This role will be responsible for technical oversight, quality assurance, contractor coordination, safety, commissioning support, and project turnover.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Engineering & Quality Assurance
- Oversee High, Medium, and Low Voltage electrical installations.
- Supervise installation and integration of incoming power feeds, substations, transformers, switchgear, generators, UPS systems, PDUs, RPPs, and related electrical distribution equipment.
- Review electrical contractor submittals, equipment specifications, shop drawings, single-line diagrams (SLDs), and RFIs for compliance with project requirements.
- Coordinate with the Design Team to resolve technical issues and ensure design compliance.
- Verify installations comply with NEC, IEEE, NFPA 70E, local electrical codes, and applicable environmental requirements.
- Support receiving and inspection activities for electrical equipment delivered to the project site.
Construction Management
- Monitor electrical subcontractors to ensure work is completed according to approved plans, specifications, quality standards, and project schedules.
- Review contractor progress, material deliveries, long-lead equipment, and schedule milestones.
- Review and validate contractor progress billings.
- Evaluate proposed electrical change orders, including technical justification and cost impacts.
- Coordinate with project teams to identify and resolve construction issues.
Safety & Risk Management
- Monitor onsite electrical construction activities to ensure compliance with safety requirements, SWMS/JSA, and project procedures.
- Support the Construction Management Safety Team in maintaining a strong safety culture.
- Manage and enforce Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures for electrical systems.
- Coordinate with local electrical utilities regarding service connections, testing, and substation energization.
- Oversee safe energization sequences and high-voltage safety procedures.
Commissioning & Project Turnover
- Support commissioning activities through Mechanical Completion, field walkdowns, Site Acceptance Testing, and final turnover.
- Witness testing, including full-load, failure-mode, and heat-soak testing of electrical systems.
- Verify proper operation and failover of redundant power distribution paths.
- Conduct regular field inspections to identify installation deficiencies.
- Manage QA/QC punch lists and verify corrective actions are completed.
- Ensure as-built drawings, O&M manuals, factory test reports, spare parts inventories, and other turnover documentation are complete.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 5 years of experience in electrical construction management, electrical engineering, or a related construction role.
- Experience with electrical distribution systems and large-scale construction projects.
- Data center experience is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of electrical distribution equipment and systems.
- Understanding of construction processes, project schedules, quality control, and project management principles.
- Knowledge of NEC, IEEE, NFPA 70E, and electrical safety practices.
- Strong communication, leadership, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or similar engineering/construction software is preferred.
