What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Manager position at TECHNOMILE LLC?
Engineering Manager
Location: India, Pune
About the Role
The Engineering Manager is the operational heartbeat of a specific Product Area (Platform, Growth, or Contracts). You are responsible for the delivery velocity, professional growth, and operational health of 1–2 development Pods.
You will work in a "Duo-Leadership" model, partnering with Pod Technical Leads who own the architecture, while you own the people, the Kanban flow in Azure DevOps, and the coordination of high-quality releases with our US-based Leadership and Cloud Operations teams.
Key Responsibilities
- High-Performance People Leadership
- Manage and coach a team of 20–35 software engineers, providing direct mentorship to Pod Technical Leads.
- Conduct regular 1-on-1s and performance reviews, building clear career development paths for your team members.
- Lead local recruitment and onboarding efforts to scale your pods in alignment with product roadmap demands.
2. Delivery & Kanban Flow (Azure DevOps)
- Flow Optimization: Own the Kanban boards within Azure DevOps (ADO); monitor Cycle Time and Throughput to ensure a steady, predictable flow of features.
- WIP Management: Work with Pod Leads to manage "Work in Progress" limits and resolve bottlenecks before they impact delivery timelines.
- Handover Leadership: Lead the daily US morning handoff using ADO Dashboards to provide concise, data-driven status updates to US leadership.
3. Release Coordination & Quality Standards
- Cloud Operations Partnership: Act as the primary interface for the US-based Cloud Operations and Compliance teams to coordinate deployments and ensure infrastructure readiness.
- Definition of Done: Enforce a rigorous "Definition of Done" that ensures code is functionally complete, thoroughly tested, and ready for US-based sovereign review.
- Quality Gates: Partner with the QA Manager and Principal Engineer to ensure automated testing and standard security scans are integrated seamlessly into the daily workflow.
4. Strategic Roadmap Alignment
- Collaborate with the CIO/CTO (US) and Product team to refine the backlog and ensure the pods are working on the highest-priority business items.
- Bridge the gap between US-based product requirements and India-based technical execution.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: 8 years in software engineering, with 3 years in a dedicated people management role overseeing multiple teams or pods.
- Management Scale: Proven experience managing teams of 20-35 engineers in a high-growth SaaS environment.
- Communication: Exceptional English verbal and written skills; comfortable presenting to US-based executive leadership.
- Tooling Mastery: Advanced experience with Azure DevOps (ADO), specifically managing Boards, Queries, and Dashboards.
- Methodology: Deep understanding of Kanban principles (WIP limits, flow metrics, pull systems).
- Operational Excellence: Proven experience delivering complex SaaS products at scale with a focus on stability and performance.
- Technical Roots: A strong background in full-stack development (Java, Python, or JavaScript frameworks) and cloud-native architecture (AWS/Azure).
