Position Overview
The Senior Director of Engineering (Process & Design) is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing all engineering functions related to refinery process operations, design, compliance, and capital project execution. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, proven leadership in refinery environments, and a strategic mindset that supports safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership for all process and design engineering functions supporting refinery operations and capital projects.
- Oversee the development, review, and approval of engineering designs, process models, and technical documentation.
- Lead efforts to maintain compliance with PSM regulations, including MOC, PHA, mechanical integrity, and operating procedures.
- Direct refinery expansion, debottlenecking, and improvement projects through all phases—from conceptual design to commissioning and startup.
- Support and guide plant startup activities, troubleshooting, and operational readiness assessments.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, HSE, and project management teams to ensure safe and effective project execution and plant performance.
- Champion best practices, operational excellence, and continuous improvement initiatives across engineering and operations.
- Manage and develop engineering staff, ensuring strong technical performance and alignment with organizational goals.
- Participate in budget development, capital planning, and long-term strategic engineering initiatives.
- Serve as a senior technical advisor to executive leadership on refinery process performance, risks, and opportunities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Chemical, Mechanical, or Petroleum Engineering.
- Extensive experience (typically 10 years) in refinery or petrochemical plant operations, including leadership-level responsibilities.
- Demonstrated expertise in:
- Process Safety Management (PSM) compliance
- Refinery startup and commissioning
- Refinery expansion, improvement, and capital projects
- Process engineering and design engineering
- Strong working knowledge of refinery unit operations, reliability practices, and engineering design standards.
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop engineering teams.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and decision-making skills.
- Preferred: Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
