Job Title: Production Supervisor
Location: On Site - Sturbridge, Massachusetts, United States
Salary: $75,000-$85,000 Base
Shift: This is a second shift position with a Mon - Fri schedule of 4pm -1am.
About the Electrical Equipment Manufacturing Company / The Opportunity:
This Production Supervisor role offers the opportunity to lead second-shift operations, drive safety and quality improvements, and develop frontline manufacturing talent on a fast-paced production floor. The position is ideal for a hands-on leader who can balance people management, production metrics, and continuous improvement in a regulated manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise second-shift production operations (Mon–Fri 4pm–1am), ensuring targets for throughput, OEE and production metrics are met.
- Conduct regular shop-floor Gemba walks every two hours to monitor work execution, cleanliness of fiber paths, LIFO, rework status and engineering feedback.
- Create and deliver clear start/end of shift communications, perform shift handovers and lead daily production meetings and reporting.
- Manage staffing: schedule personnel, oversee vacation and overtime planning, approve timecards and optimize labor utilization and line balancing.
- Ensure safe operation of equipment and compliance with PPE, LOTO, clean-room protocols and OSHA recordkeeping; respond immediately to incidents and coordinate with emergency personnel.
- Drive continuous improvement using data (production reporting, throughput, yield) and update work instructions / standard procedures as needed.
- Participate in hiring and interviewing manufacturing candidates, perform performance management and issue disciplinary actions per policy in coordination with HR and management.
- Coordinate maintenance requests, call in support or trades when required, and act as liaison for power failures, evacuations and other facility events.
Must-Have Skills:
- 3 years in manufacturing leadership or 5 years in a manufacturing environment with frontline supervision experience.
- Proven ability to manage production schedules, shift/crew rosters and labor utilization to meet production demands.
- Strong knowledge of production metrics (OEE, throughput, yield) and experience preparing daily production reports.
- Solid safety knowledge including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), PPE compliance, incident investigation and OSHA recordkeeping.
- Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and ability to analyze data for continuous improvement.
- Excellent communication skills for shift handovers, daily meetings and cross-functional coordination.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Experience in fiber optic or optical cable manufacturing (fiber draw, ribbonizing, buffer/loose tube construction, jacketing/stranding).
- Familiarity with fiber assembly and termination processes (MPO/MTP, LC, SC), fusion splicing and end-face inspection techniques.
- Knowledge of optical testing equipment and methods (OTDR, insertion loss, return loss, optical performance testing).
- Exposure to clean-room protocols and controlled-environment manufacturing.
- Background in continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, 5S) and experience leading Kaizen or problem-solving events.
