About the Real Estate Company / The Opportunity:
Our client is a rapidly expanding company in the real estate industry with a focus on investment, development, and property management across key U.S. markets. Renowned for operational excellence, financial discipline, and long-term value creation, the organization manages a portfolio spanning millions of square feet and numerous legal entities. As Financial Controller, you will join a dynamic, entrepreneurial team and be entrusted with leading the accounting function, supporting executive leadership, and shaping the financial strategy of a growing real estate platform.
Responsibilities:
- Lead all accounting operations, including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, fixed assets, and cash management.
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes while ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Prepare and review consolidated financial statements and management reporting packages.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and all regulatory accounting standards.
- Supervise accounting for diversified real estate portfolios, including acquisitions, development projects, and joint ventures.
- Manage and develop the accounting team through mentorship, professional development, and succession planning.
- Coordinate annual audits and tax compliance with external auditors, tax advisors, lenders, and investors.
- Partner with the CFO on budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and strategic growth initiatives.
Must-Have Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 8 years in progressive accounting roles, with at least 3 years in a leadership position.
- Extensive real estate accounting experience within development, ownership, REIT, investment, or property management environments.
- Deep knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and multi-entity accounting structures.
- Proven track record leading and developing accounting teams.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong experience with ERP/accounting systems.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- CPA or active pursuit of CPA certification strongly preferred.
- Public accounting experience, particularly with real estate clients.
- Familiarity with Yardi, MRI, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, RealPage, or similar platforms.
- Experience in private equity-backed, institutional, or high-growth real estate organizations.
- Knowledge of partnership accounting, development accounting, and joint venture structures.
- Ability to partner with executive leadership and external financial stakeholders.
Salary : $140,000 - $180,000
