What are the responsibilities and job description for the Credit Associate position at Talently?
Credit Associate | Private Credit & Direct Lending | Los Angeles, California
The Firm
We are working with a Los Angeles-based asset-backed private credit manager focused on providing structured debt solutions to capital-constrained businesses across the lower and middle markets. The firm deploys both direct lending and venture lending strategies, investing in corporate debt, structured equity, and other privately negotiated financings for cash-flowing businesses across North America. The firm operates with a radically transparent, low-conflict model — building everything in-house from origination through portfolio management, with no outsourced managers and no hidden fees. The result is a disciplined, process-driven credit platform that consistently delivers for its borrowers and investors alike.
The Opportunity
This is a high-ownership Credit Associate seat with exposure to the full deal lifecycle — from initial screening and underwriting through execution, documentation, and ongoing portfolio monitoring. You'll work directly alongside senior investment professionals on a lean, collaborative team in a hybrid Los Angeles environment, with real responsibility across both direct lending and venture lending mandates from day one.
What You'll Do
- Conduct comprehensive credit underwriting and financial analysis for prospective direct lending and leveraged finance investments
- Build and maintain detailed cash flow, LBO, leverage, and sensitivity models to support valuation and deal structuring
- Perform due diligence including review of financial statements, industry research, management diligence, and third-party reports
- Draft investment memos, term sheets, and presentation materials for Investment Committee review
- Support transaction execution, coordinating with legal, compliance, and external advisors on documentation and closing mechanics
- Monitor portfolio performance, covenant compliance, and risk metrics; prepare regular portfolio reports for internal stakeholders and investors
- Assist in origination efforts by screening opportunities, building relationship networks, and participating in deal calls and negotiations
Who You Are
- 3 years of experience in private credit, direct lending, leveraged finance, commercial banking, or investment banking with credit exposure
- Strong credit underwriting skills with demonstrated experience assessing cash flow, collateral, and leverage dynamics
- Advanced financial modeling skills — cash flow, LBO, leverage, and sensitivity analysis — with high proficiency in Excel
- Solid understanding of loan documentation, covenants, capital structures, and credit agreements
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience preparing Investment Committee materials and investor reports
- Based in or willing to commute to Los Angeles (hybrid schedule)
Preferred Background
- Experience with venture lending, unitranche structures, or distressed/turnaround situations
