About the Opportunity:

Join a publicly traded commercial real estate company and become part of a collaborative legal team supporting a diverse portfolio of high-profile retail and mixed-use properties. In this role, you will play a key part in negotiating and advising on complex retail and commercial leasing transactions while partnering closely with business leaders to support strategic real estate initiatives.

Responsibilities:

• Draft necessary legal documents and develop thoughtful conclusions and recommendations for varied real estate matters.
• Advise clients on high exposure or risk situations, aligning legal strategies with business risk tolerance and objectives.
• Create practical and innovative solutions to complex legal issues, often with no established precedent.
• Lead negotiations for complex, strategic, or sensitive real estate transactions, understanding long-term business impacts.
• Deliver challenging messages and provide direct, effective counsel to clients, even in contentious situations.
• Establish and leverage a broad network of relationships across the legal and business organization.
• Mentor and train less experienced attorneys or paralegals on legal procedures and best practices.
• Coordinate and lead cross-functional projects involving multiple business lines.

Must-Have Skills:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in Indiana.
• 10 years of experience in corporate transactional real estate law, with a focus on commercial retail real estate.
• In-depth knowledge of shopping center leasing, reciprocal easement and operating agreements, development agreements, and property dispositions.
• Demonstrated experience handling a wide variety of complex real estate transactions in fast-paced environments.
• Strong oral and written communication skills for interaction with all levels of management and clients.
• Subject matter expertise in shopping center real estate transactions and practices.
• Proven ability to both manage and lead negotiations on high-stakes deals.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

• Experience with team coaching, development, and cross-functional leadership.
• Business acumen and understanding of key commercial real estate goals and priorities.
• Motivation and influence skills in team building contexts.
• Prior experience advising on the transformation and redevelopment of retail properties into mixed-use spaces.
• Knowledge of the Indianapolis real estate market or similar urban environments.
