The Manager Accounting is responsible for managing the financial accounting functions of Saint Francis Health System and its affiliates by supervising the day-to-day activities of the financial accounting staff. This role is responsible for the oversight of cash management, accounts payable, fixed assets, general ledger, and budget functions of SFHS and affiliates, ensuring adherence to generally accepted accounting principles and accurate reporting of accounting data and its analysis.
Job Responsibilities:
- Manage daily accounting operations, including preparation of journal entries, check requests, bank reconciliations, and balance sheet account reconciliations. Ensure resolution of discrepancies and evaluate internal controls and process adequacy during review.
- Review financial statements for several entities monthly for accuracy, completeness, and reasonableness.
- Evaluate financial statements for appropriateness and make recommendations for improvements or changes to financial operations.
- Participate in the budget process for areas of concentration.
- Coordinate interfaces into the general ledger, ensuring proper posting and reporting of activity.
- Participate in preparation and coordination of yearly audit, preparing required workpapers and assisting audit staff with the goal of zero audit entries proposed and minimal recommendations from external auditors.
- Prepare tax returns or information for assigned entities, including franchise and personal property renditions.
- Select, train, and evaluate employees for assigned responsibilities and organize workflow daily for direct reports, covering multiple areas of talent.
- Maintain and evaluate accounting systems and procedures, continuously seeking improvements.
- Provide support to Financial Services Director and Vice President as needed.
- Collaborate with staff and managers from other departments to answer inquiries and provide financial information, including budget requirements.
- Assist in requests for special financial, budget, and statistical information for SFHS.
- Assist with special projects as assigned.
- Participate in the preparation and compilation of the annual capital budget and manage associated project, property, and equipment accounting throughout the year.
- Perform analysis and reports consistent with the above responsibilities.
- Coordinate annual physical inventory of fixed assets.
- Assist in the development and implementation of new initiatives.
- Validate month-end and year-end financial data.
- Exercise independent judgment in making decisions from many diversified alternatives subject to general review in final stages only.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Supervisory experience.
- Knowledge of Microsoft 365 and other applicable software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, presenting clear and concise information.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities with competing deadlines.
- Professional and courteous demeanor, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to work in a complex financial system.
- Minimum five (5) years in healthcare.
Required Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
- Certified Public Accountant.
