Job Overview
Calvert Masonry Inc., a 100% employee-owned leader in commercial and industrial masonry, is seeking a Project Engineer to support assigned projects under the direct supervision of a Vice President and/or experienced Project Manager. This role is designed for early-career construction professionals looking to grow into larger project ownership. As skills develop, the Project Engineer will take on increasing responsibility while receiving structured mentorship from senior leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare AutoCAD shop drawings, including scaffold layouts, air barrier, and flashing details
- Prepare and manage submittals in compliance with contract documents; pursue timely approvals
- Review contract drawings and prepare RFIs to resolve conflicts or missing details
- Review GC-issued RFIs for contract changes and update internal drawing sets accordingly
- Coordinate with general contractors and other trades to ensure proper interface with masonry work
- Communicate regularly with foremen, superintendents, and project teams to minimize conflicts
- Perform jobsite visits to monitor quality, productivity, and safety compliance
- Generate and maintain project control logs and reports (RFIs, submittals, change logs, production, monthly reports)
- Perform material takeoffs, solicit pricing, negotiate vendor costs, and prepare purchase orders
- Review invoices and support accounts payable, including supplier and subcontractor reconciliations
- Prepare schedules of values and progress billings; assist with payment follow-up
- Support field teams with layout assistance, inventory reconciliation, and clarification of drawings and changes
- Identify and report safety concerns during site visits
- Monitor schedules, sequencing, manpower, and equipment utilization for profitability
- Identify changed conditions, quantify impacts, prepare pricing, and support change order negotiations
- Escalate unresolved issues with supporting documentation as needed
- Prepare area quantity, manpower estimates, and production tracking reports
Qualifications
- 1–3 years of experience in construction project support; masonry or GC experience preferred
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Familiarity with project management software
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and contracts
- Ability to translate technical details into actionable field guidance
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and time-management skills
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities
- Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to quality and safety
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
