Job Title: Teaching Assistant – RITS
Location: Cranston, RI
Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant (TA) to support educational programming within a structured youth facility environment. The Teaching Assistant plays a vital role in assisting teachers with classroom operations, instructional support, and student engagement while maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
This position requires professionalism, patience, adaptability, and a strong commitment to student wellbeing and academic growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist teachers with lesson preparation and classroom setup.
- Distribute and collect instructional materials and assignments.
- Provide one-on-one and small group academic support to students.
- Support students with assignments and help clarify difficult concepts.
- Assist students requiring special accommodations, including students with disabilities and English Language Learners.
- Maintain classroom order and help ensure a safe and structured learning environment.
- Collaborate with teachers to identify student concerns and support solutions.
- Attend staff meetings and participate in educational planning activities.
- Adhere to all facility, school, and state policies and procedures.
- Promote student safety and wellbeing at all times.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Teacher Assistant Training Program Certificate or minimum six (6) months of related experience.
- Ability to pass required background checks (BCI).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a structured and dynamic environment.
- Ability to engage and support students in grades 6–12.
- Demonstrated patience, empathy, and professionalism.
Preferred Qualifications
- Training in classroom management and instructional practices.
- Experience working with students with special needs.
- Understanding of pedagogical best practices.
- Experience supporting diverse learners.
