Job Description

Clinical Research Interviewers will support up to two federally funded studies on trauma-related drinking conducted within the IMPACT Lab in the Department of Psychology.

The first study aims to understand the emotions and thoughts that influence drinking as individuals go about their daily lives. The second study explores trauma processing in the context of alcohol. These studies both include an onboarding session, ecological momentary assessment (EMA) phase, and related follow-up sessions.

The Clinical Research Interviewers will: (1) receive formal training in alcohol use assessment through the Timeline Followback (TLFB) calendar approach; (2) receive formal training in the Clinician-Administered PTSD Scale for DSM-5 (CAPS-5) diagnostic interview for PTSD; (3) receive training on additional elements of the study protocol as relevant; (4) administer the TLFB, CAPS-5, and additional self-report study assessments to enrolled participants in the context of study sessions; (5) receive feedback on assessment administration from the faculty principal investigator; and (6) engage in additional administration and support activities as relevant for assigned participants (e.g., tracking and rescheduling participants, inputting collected data). Formal training in the TLFB and CAPS-5 involves a combination of self-directed online training, readings, mock assessment sessions with the faculty principal investigator and trained research staff, observed assessments, and review of audio recordings from all study sessions.

Education and Experience

  • Experience conducting psychological assessments and/or performing structured clinical diagnostic interviews is preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, mental health, behavioral sciences, or a related field
  • Prior experience and interest conducting research in psychology or social sciences

Skills and Knowledge

  • Demonstrated evidence of basic psychological assessment skills
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal skills
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail

Responsibilities

  • Implementing study assessments with research participants.
  • Participating in weekly group supervision and project meetings.
  • Coordinating project management tasks for assigned research participants, including entering relevant data into project databases and communicating with participants as needed.
