POSTED ON 7/27/2026 CLOSED ON 8/9/2026

What are the responsibilities and job description for the Temporary Research Speech-Language Pathologist position at Syracuse University?

Job Description

The Syracuse University Speech Production Lab is hiring a part-time, hourly ASHA-certified speech-language pathologist to support an NIH-funded clinical trial. In this role, you will assist with assessment and treatment of school-age children (ages 9–17) with residual speech sound disorders, specifically misarticulations of /r/ and /s/.

This is a great opportunity for an SLP who enjoys applying evidence-based treatment protocols in a research context and working flexibly with families in home or community settings.

Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology
  • CCC-SLP
  • NY state licensure in SLP

Skills and Knowledge

  • Experience working with children with speech sound disorders

Responsibilities

  • SLPs will assist with assessment and treatment of school-age children ages 9-17 years with residual speech sound disorders (misarticulations of /r/ and /s/).
  • SLPs must be available in the after-school hours and must follow research protocols for assessment and treatment using an evidence-based approach, Speech Motor Chaining.
  • Children will be seen at their homes or the SLP may find a public location (e.g., library room) for sessions.
  • Treatment includes 16 hours per participant, plus progress-monitoring visits. As this is a randomized controlled trial investigating treatment distribution, SLPs must be willing to work with children in two conditions: two one-hour sessions per week for 8 weeks, or a more intensive treatment schedule (four 2 hr visits the first week, three one hour visits in weeks two and three, and two one hour visits the fourth week).
  • We intend for the SLP to treat one participant at a time, and treat approximately 4-5 participants per year.
  • Mileage will be reimbursed for travel to sessions, and an hourly rate of $41-45/hr will be compensated (up to an additional 1 hr will be paid for pre/post session work for each session).
