Job Description

Work collaboratively with the Director of the Center for Qualitative and Multi-Method Inquiry (CQMI). Lead the planning and logistics for the annual Institute for Qualitative and Multi-method Research which hosts over 170 attendees.

Identify opportunities for external funding, assist in preparing grant proposals and monitor grants for available funding. Support management of grant budgets and compliance. Plan and supervise the implementation of courses, events, conferences and workshops for CQMI and its units, including the Qualitative Data Repository.

We will begin reviewing applications on August 31, 2026 until the position is filled.

Education and Experience

  • A Master’s degree or equivalent graduate degree in Library Science, Information Science, Data Science, or a related field OR in a social science or humanities discipline with a tradition of generating and using qualitative data, including but not limited to Political Science, Sociology, History, or Anthropology.

Skills and Knowledge

  • The position requires excellent communication skills, and the ability to interact effectively with an international community of scholars, students and practitioners.
  • Flexibility and the ability to engage in multiple responsibilities and obligations simultaneously are also necessary.
  • Ability to self-start, to work independently and as part of a team, and to help to direct team activities when necessary are likewise required.
  • Management-level administrative experience in an academic setting is strongly preferred.
  • Experience organizing and managing events is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Administer the annual Institute for Qualitative and Multi-Method Research. The year-round cycle includes interactions with between 75 and 85 departments, schools and research centers nominating students to the annual institute; interactions with the 30 instructors leading sessions at IQMR; soliciting proposals to and then administering the open pool (fellowship) competition to attend IQMR; interact with the 170 attendees slated to attend IQMR; plan and administer the logistics for IQMR, including rooms, meals, IT access, reading materials, and post-institute module evaluations.
  • Identify funding sources internal and external to the university and assist in preparing grant proposals to secure funding for CQMI and its related projects, including the Qualitative Data Repository. Responsible for the budgeting and compliance related to CQMI grants and financial and operational resource allocation. Contribute to researching and writing documents offering guidance related to the sharing and reusing of qualitative data.
  • Plan and supervise the implementation of all courses, events, conferences, and workshops for CQMI and its related projects. We anticipate there would initially be 4 events per semester.
  • Supervise CQMI staff (for example, CQMI Staff Assistant)
