Job Description

A vital position within the Event and Technical Services (ETS) unit within Student Engagement, this position will administer the services, programs, and staffing for ETS focusing on the delivery and facilitation of technical support services and production for the events and programs serviced by Student Engagement.

A Summary Of Responsibilities Includes

  • Facilitate all building services and operations.
  • Design, install, and engineer and operate light and sound reinforcement to deliver said services.
  • Implement and/or develop services and strategies designed to showcase the organization, meet the identified needs of the University Community, and contribute positively to the financial position of the department.

Education and Experience

  • Undergraduate college, bachelor’s degree, or 3 years of equivalent experience required.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • 1 year facilitation of events/and or facility management preferred.
  • 1 year of professional lighting, sound and/or video production experience preferred.
  • Must be able to work at heights up to 40 feet including work in/on scaffolding, trusses, and grids.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Evening and weekend work required.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of live audio engineering, including digital consoles, required.
  • Working knowledge of theatrical lighting, including moving lights, required.
  • Working knowledge of video production, live broadcasting, camera operation, and post-production required.
  • Experience with Adobe Premiere preferred.
  • Basic theatrical experience (terminology, stage directions, equipment) required.
  • Basic supervisory/management experience preferred.
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office, Windows, and Mac software as relates to presentation software and connectivity required.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate technical support of venues and events in the Schine and Goldstein Student Centers, Skybarn Facility, and other Syracuse University venues that fall under the purview of the Division of the Student Experience and Syracuse University during evenings and weekends.
  • Supervise and direct student staff in performance of services including hiring, scheduling, training, and performance review of student employees.
  • Design, install, engineer, and operate lighting, sound, and video equipment to deliver technical support.
  • Responsible for facilitating and producing video recordings, live broadcasts, and video and audio post-production including coordination of repair and maintenance of said equipment.
  • Responsible for maintaining all safety and environmental health policies and protocols related to services, staffing, and equipment.
  • Advise event organizers on technical requirements, limitations, and costs relative to planned programs and events.
  • Assist with the review of the technical requests and requirements of contractual agreements.
  • Advance show with artists to confirm and fulfill requirements.
  • Responsible for the arrangement and coordination of outside equipment rentals as dictated by events.
  • Share responsibility for Student Experience Box Office operations as it relates to event management, ticket processes, and communication with box office users and event organizers.
