Position Overview
The Mechanical Engineering Manager leads a team of mechanical engineers responsible for designing, analyzing, and supporting mechanical systems and components that meet established technical and quality standards. This role ensures engineering work aligns with best practices while also contributing to enhancements in engineering processes and departmental procedures.
Candidates should have at least 6 years of experience in a design-focused engineering role. Experience with industrial plant or system design and familiarity with standard industrial mechanical equipment is strongly preferred. Strong leadership, collaboration, planning, and multitasking skills are essential for success.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert technical direction on complex or unusual mechanical engineering challenges.
- Assess resource needs to support both long-range organizational plans and short-term project demands.
- Determine when external engineering support is required and manage vendor evaluation, selection, and contracting.
- Offer administrative and technical supervision to engineering personnel to ensure high-quality work and project execution.
- Lead strategic hiring efforts for internal team needs and external talent acquisition.
- Oversee technical, project-execution, and professional-development training for engineering staff.
- Conduct formal and informal performance reviews and use outcomes to guide compensation planning, development plans, and improvement initiatives.
- Delegate both essential and routine tasks effectively across the team.
- Develop strong relationships with clients, consultants, and technical organizations through frequent professional interaction.
- Lead efforts to improve or evaluate new systems, tools, materials, and processes to advance engineering capabilities.
- Promote the use of updated technical and project-management tools to enhance the Company’s engineering designs.
- Support proposals and contract development, including scope definition, man-hour estimating, scheduling, and project strategy.
- Maintain a network of professional contacts inside and outside the Company to stay aware of technical advances and potential outsourcing resources.
- Travel independently to international sites or meetings when required.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 6–15 years of related engineering experience.
- EIT or PE certification strongly preferred.
- Strong leadership and communication abilities.
- Excellent organizational and planning skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally as needed.
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
- Experience leading multiple projects of varying complexity.
- Solid understanding of relevant design codes and industry standards.
Salary : $150,000 - $165,000
