Implementation Specialist / Data Center Technician (Trading Environment)

This role is more of a data center technician who can work with the end points (i.e. servers, routers and switches), pulling logs and troubleshooting doing the cabling work.
***Position is located in Chicago, primarily working at Data Center experience required, in a data center that has water cooling . Must be able to lead team onsite, and handle client facing responsibilities.
Position is will work locally for initial period but must be willing to travel as needed.***
Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in data center environments (not just low voltage)
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- Servers, switches, and routers
- Rack & stack deployments
- Troubleshooting hardware and network issues
- Experience pulling logs and diagnosing issues across systems
- Solid understanding of:
- Networking fundamentals
- Data center infrastructure
- Performance-sensitive environments
- Experience with fiber and copper cabling, including testing and certification
- Ability to lead teams and operate as the point person on-site
- Strong communication skills for client-facing interactions
- Ability to work in fast-paced, high-pressure environments
We are seeking a highly skilled Data Center Implementation Specialist / Technician to support critical infrastructure within a high-performance trading data center environment. This role goes beyond traditional low-voltage work and requires hands-on experience with servers, switches, routers, and real-time troubleshooting, in addition to cabling and physical infrastructure.
This position is ideal for someone who can operate at the intersection of hardware, networking, and data center operations, with the ability to diagnose issues, pull logs, and support performance-sensitive systems where latency and uptime are critical.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a lead on-site technical resource, supporting data center operations, deployments, and troubleshooting efforts
- Work directly with endpoints, including:
- Servers
- Network switches and routers
- Storage systems
- Perform log analysis and troubleshooting to diagnose performance or connectivity issues
- Support hardware installations, upgrades, and replacements (servers, GPUs, NICs, FPGA cards, etc.)
- Execute rack & stack deployments, including full cabinet builds and device integration
- Install and manage structured cabling (fiber and copper), including patching and labeling
- Perform fiber testing and validation (OTDR, light meters, Fluke/EXFO tools)
- Troubleshoot:
- Network connectivity issues
- Hardware failures
- Latency/performance-related concerns
- Assist with low-latency optimization efforts (shorter cable runs, efficient routing, etc.) in trading environments
- Work within water-cooled data center environments, supporting high-density compute infrastructure
- Read and interpret network diagrams, rack elevations, and schematics
- Support MDF/IDF environments and cross-connects
- Provide client-facing support, communicating clearly on issues, progress, and solutions
- Lead and coordinate on-site technicians and deployment teams
- Maintain accurate documentation, reporting, and change tracking
- Ensure adherence to safety and operational protocols
Work Environment & Expectations
- Primarily based in Chicago data center (Jump Trading)
- Initial work will be local, with travel required (~50%) as projects evolve
- Work in a high-performance, high-expectation environment with tight timelines
- Must be comfortable working:
- Long hours when needed
- Nights/weekends depending on deployment schedules
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a trading or financial data center environment (highly preferred)
- Experience working in low-latency / high-performance computing environments
- Familiarity with:
- FPGA cards
- GPU infrastructure (NVIDIA, etc.)
- Certifications such as:
- BICSI
- Fluke / EXFO tester certifications
- OSHA
Physical Requirements
- Lift up to 50 lbs regularly, 70 lbs occasionally
- Ability to:
- Bend, kneel, crouch, and work in tight rack spaces
- Comfortable working in active data center environments
