For over 27 years SWAN has served the City of New York by creating one of its largest most academically enriching Chinese immersion programs. The mission of SWAN is to develop Mandarin Chinese language proficiency and to enhance awareness of Chinese culture in students. We believe that students with a wide range of cultural and linguistic experiences are uniquely positioned to assume leadership positions in different contexts.
Our existing and developing programs provide families with access to Chinese cultural and language experiences. By providing preschool, afterschool instruction and summer camp experiences, we have and continue to meet the needs of these families. By working locally, we are preparing students to work in global contexts.
The Position:
The Preschool Director is a full-time position reporting directly to the Executive Director, he/she will assist the delivery of SWAN preschool day-to-day operations including classrooms and parents management, staff training and scheduling, implementation of educational programs and the following responsibilities:
- Assist the Executive Director to ensure preschool programs and goals are implemented to support SWAN’s mission and objectives.
- Work alongside the Education Director and implement effective teaching to support school's learning outcomes.
- Conduct strategic planning to enhance educational offerings and improve student outcomes.
- Oversee budgeting processes related to educational programs, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.
- Maintain and expand school enrollment.
- Responsible for preschool day-to-day operations.
- Ensure children’s academic, social, emotional and physical needs are met.
- Manage and execute social programs within budget parameters.
- Responsible for preschool communication and family activities for parents.
- Prepare and submit required reports and maintains accurate programming records.
- Participate in Quality Improvement Project.
- Performed other duties as assigned by Executive Director.
Qualifications:
- REQUIRED: Current Valid Birth - 2nd Grade Certification issued by the State Education Department pursuant to 8 NYCRR.
- A bachelor degree in Education, Early Childhood Education and/or Child Psychology.
- Two or more years’ of teaching experience in preschool or elementary school setting.
- Ability to maintain and deliver a safe and nurturing environment.
- Ability to effectively communicate with parents, students and teachers.
- Personal qualities of integrity, credibility and commitment to education.
- English/Chinese bilingual skills and bicultural capabilities preferred but not required.
