Summary: The Plant Manager is responsible for the overall ownership, performance, and strategic direction of the plant. This role oversees plant operations through the Plant Supervisor, ensuring production, safety, quality, and financial objectives are met. The Plant Manager is accountable for driving operational excellence, leading cross-functional initiatives, and managing projects that improve efficiency, reduce cost, and support business growth.
Essential duties of Position:
- Own overall plant performance, ensuring production targets, quality standards, safety requirements, and cost objectives are consistently achieved
- Provide leadership and direction to the Plant Supervisor, ensuring effective execution of daily operations, workforce management, and production activities
- Utilize Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) to monitor performance, drive accountability, and align plant operations with company goals
- Lead and manage plant-level projects and initiatives, including process improvements, equipment implementation, workflow optimization, and cost-reduction efforts, ensuring projects are completed on time and deliver measurable results
- Monitor and maintain accurate inventory records to support production planning and minimize material shortages or overstock
- Manage the onsite Maintenance department and coordinate with Operations, HR and various other departments to address equipment repairs, supplies, recruitment and workforce planning needs
- Investigate root causes of Non-Conforming Material Reports (NCMRs) and Corrective Action Reports (CARs), with a focus on cost, performance, and safety impacts
- Set operational priorities and direction for the plant through the Plant supervisor, ensuring alignment with production schedules and business objectives
- Ensure appropriate staffing and resource allocation through the Plant Supervisor to support production demands and operational efficiency
- Manage all aspects of team leadership including hiring, training, performance management, coaching, and disciplinary actions up to and including termination, in partnership with HR as needed
- Partner with Finance to monitor and improve plant financial performance, including labor efficiency, waste reduction, and overtime management
- Foster a collaborative and communicative environment to strengthen team dynamics and accountability
- Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize efficiency, reduce waste, and prevent errors
- Proactively promote and enforce safety practices, maintain clean work areas, and ensure appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Ensure plant compliance with OSHA regulations and other applicable safety standards
- Ensure plant-wide compliance with ISO 9001 QMS, OSHA regulations, and all applicable safety and operational standards
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to effectively delegate and prioritize tasks
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Familiarity with Quality Management Systems (QMS) a plus
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED (required)
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, manufacturing, operations management, or related field (preferred)
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a manufacturing or plant operations role (required)
- Minimum 3 – 5 years of proven experience in a leadership or plant management role (required)
