Project Accountant
Our client, a well-established general contractor, is seeking a Project Accountant to own the financial management of multiple construction projects from award through closeout. Position Summary
The Project Accountant partners closely with Project Managers, Estimators, and Operations to ensure accurate job costing, timely billings, document tracking, and financial reporting, while maintaining compliance with company policies and accounting standards. The role reports to the Controller.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the financial aspects of assigned construction projects
- Maintain accurate job cost records and ensure costs are coded correctly
- Prepare and process owner billings, progress billings, and invoices
- Track subcontractor commitments, change orders, retainage, and lien waivers
- Assist with pre-qualifications and credit applications
- Request and provide certificates of insurance (COIs) for projects
- Support Project Managers with project setup, drawings, and document control
- Maintain project documentation and submit closeout documents
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
- 3–5 years of construction accounting and document control experience preferred
- General contracting or civil construction background is a plus
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word
- Experience with construction accounting and project management software (e.g., Sage, Procore) is a plus
- Strong understanding of job costing, construction contracts and change orders, progress billing, and retainage
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Salary : $60,000 - $80,000
