Position Summary
SMH is seeking a hands-on IT Assistant to provide technical support, maintain hardware and software systems, and ensure smooth day-to-day technology operations across the hospital. This role is especially critical in our rural setting, where dependable IT support directly impacts patient care and staff efficiency.
The ideal candidate is a problem-solver with strong technical knowledge and the ability to work independently, while also supporting non-technical staff in a professional and approachable manner.
Key Responsibilities
- User Support
- Serve as the first point of contact for staff IT issues
- Provide direct technical support to staff via phone, email, or in-person for hardware, software, network, and EMR/EHR system issues.
- Equipment Setup:
- Install, configure, and maintain computers, software, and other technology equipment.
- Troubleshooting
- Diagnose and resolve technical problems with devices, wired/wireless networks, and applications.
- Inventory Management
- Keep track of IT equipment and assets, including software licenses and hardware.
- Account and Password Management
- Assist with managing user accounts and resetting passwords.
- System Monitoring and Maintenance
- Perform routine maintenance and updates on all equipment
- Monitor system performance and report any issues to IT Director.
- Data Management
- Help with data backups and recovery procedures.
- Ensure secure disposal of old equipment
- Documentation
- Create and maintain documentation for IT procedures and support logs.
Required skill and qualifications
- Education/Experience
- High School diploma or GED
- 1-3 years of IT support preferred (healthcare setting is a plus).
- Technical Skills
- Basic knowledge of computer hardware, software (Microsoft Office), operating systems (Windows OS), and networks
- Communication Skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
- Problem-Solving
- Ability to analyze issues, identify solutions, and resolve technical problems effectively.
- Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks
- Interpersonal Skills
- Ability to work well in a team and provide excellent customer service.
- Physical Abilities
- Ability to lift and move computer equipment (sometimes up to 50 pounds) and work in confined spaces, such as under desks.
