Introduction

The Department of Health Services (DHS) , Northern Wisconsin Center (NWC) is recruiting for a Custodian in Chippewa Falls, WI. This full-time position will work 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM Monday through Friday.

NWC is a short-term assessment and treatment facility for individuals who have an intellectual disability as well as a mental illness and aggressive or challenging behaviors. The programming is designed to prepare people to live successfully in a community setting. NWC is one of three centers for individuals with intellectual disabilities managed by DHS. Position Summary

As the Custodian, you are responsible for performing a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks at NWC. Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Operating automatic cleaning equipment, such as automatic scrubbers, sweepers, and wall washers, wet/dry vacuums, and carpet cleaning equipment.
  • Stripping and sealing floors.
  • Cleaning toilets, showers and furniture.
  • Shoveling snow.

Salary Information

The starting pay is $16.67 per hour (approximately $34,600 per year) plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required for permanent position. There is also an $.80 /hour night differential, and an $.80 /hour weekend differential applies to worked shifts.

A $3,000 sign-on bonus applies to those with no prior state service in the last five years, who stay with NWC, in the position until completing probation. Bonus will be split, $1,500 upon hire and $1,500 after completing probation.

Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is in pay schedule and range 03/08.

Job Details

All applicants will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any convictions may be related to the job being filled.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by the NWC, or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date.

This position has physical requirements which may include but are not limited to: lifting, climbing, stretching, twisting, pulling, pushing and kneeling.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire. DHS is not an E-Verify employer nor a STEM-OPT eligible employer.

This position requires the ability to drive a State vehicle. In order to become authorized to drive a State vehicle, you must meet the requirements for the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle policy, which are:
  • Must have a valid driver's license;
  • Must have minimum of two years non-probationary licensed driving experience with a regular (Class D) driver's license;
  • Must be 18 years of age.
Additionally, your driving record MUST NOT reflect any of the following conditions:
  • Three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the past two years;
  • Operating While Intoxicated (OWI)/Driving Under the Influence (DUI) citation within the past 12 months;
  • Suspension or revocation of driver's license.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have the following:
  • Ability to work scheduled hours as needed, which may include weekends, holidays, early morning or early evenings and overtime as needed.
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting procedures.
  • Ability to use cleaning products and follow appropriate safety/sanitizing procedures including the use of protective equipment and chemical agents.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others, communicate and use problem solving skills.
Well-qualified applicants will also have the following:
  • Previous experience with custodial or housekeeping work.
  • Experience using basic hand tools (e.g. drill, screwdriver, etc.) and custodial equipment (e.g. floor scrubber, carpet cleaner, etc.).
