Key Responsibilities
The Public Protection Department of the Utah Attorney General’s Office has an opening for a full-time attorney in its Professional Licensing Section, focused on enforcing professional licensing laws and acting as counsel for the Utah Division of Professional Licensing. This includes driving litigation in administrative venues and in state and federal courts.
Our team operates in the fast-paced, meaningful, and challenging world of affirmative enforcement. Our work includes litigating to stop fraudulent contractors, ensuring healthcare licensees are providing ethical care within their scope of practice, combatting abuse against elders and other vulnerable populations, and halting unlicensed practice.
The Commercial Enforcement Division’s Mission Is To Make Utah’s Marketplace Safe And Fair By Combating Unlawful Commercial Activities And Building Trust In Our Economic Landscape. We Work Collaboratively With Our Client Agencies And Federal And State Partners To
Ø regulate the professional standards for over fifty professions, from midwives to funeral services and nearly everything in between (the Professional Licensing Section);
Ø stop the unlicensed and fraudulent sales of securities and commodities, and oversee the professional standards for real estate brokers, appraisers, and mortgage lenders (the Securities & Real Estate Section); and
Ø protect consumers from deceptive and unfair business practices (the Consumer Section).
Successful applicants will be mission driven; able to work independently and proactively with their own caseload; assist other attorneys and staff; collaborate with clients; maintain high professional standards; and set and meet meaningful goals. Qualifications
Minimum or "day-one" qualifications:
- A Juris Doctorate is required.
- Preference will be given to candidates with over three years of relevant post-law school experience.
- Experience with civil litigation and client management.
- Strong understanding of civil procedural and evidentiary rules.
- Strong writing skills
- Ability to work independently and prioritize own tasks while assisting others.
- Knowledge of modern technology in the practice of law.
- Find representing and litigating the public’s interest rewarding.
- Strong interpersonal skills and enthusiasm for working on teams.
- Commitment to meeting the highest work-product, professionalism, and ethical standards.
