What you will do:
As an Office Collections Officer, you will work in a call center environment (inbound and outbound) collecting debts and enforcing tax laws for the SCDOR.
Primary job duties include:
- Performing general collections duties to include the setup, review, and maintenance of payment plans
- Using SCDOR systems to locate and update information
- Generating and answering telephone calls and correspondence for the tax areas of Individual Income and Governmental Enterprise Accounts Receivable (GEAR)
- Conducting research of Office Collections accounts to balance accounts, determine liabilities, and issue appropriate correspondence
Either:
- A bachelor’s degree in a related field OR
- An associate's degree in a business-related field and relevant work experience OR
- Relevant experience or education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis with an approved equivalence by the Division of State Human Resources (DSHR)
Academic degrees must be from an accredited institution of higher learning
Examples of common business or related degrees include accounting, advertising, criminal justice, economics, entrepreneurship, finance, health care management hospitality management, human resources, information technology management, marketing, organizational leadership, public relations, taxation, etc.
- A bachelor's degree in a related field
- Inbound call center, customer service, collections, or tax experience
- Ability to use customer service skills in line with SCDOR standards in assisting taxpayers and fellow employees in all forms of communication providing professional courteous service
- Ability to control emotions and maintain professionalism

- Training: Office Collections Officers will participate in an onboarding program to ensure they have the knowledge and skills to successfully perform their job.
- Hours: Work hours are 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday (37.5 hours per week)
- Telework schedule: This position may be eligible to work remotely up to two days per week after one year of employment with SCDOR.
