The New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute provides care to New Mexicans across six different divisions including hospital level inpatient psychiatric care for both civil and forensic commitments, residential treatment for adolescents, outpatient care for people with behavioral health disorders, detox and residential substance use treatment, and skilled/long-term care. As the largest behavioral health complex in the state, inpatient/residential care is provided to over 250 New Mexicans every day, along with 400 outpatient clients a month. There are over 600 employees across all the divisions of NMBHI to ensure high-quality treatment and care is delivered.

Why does the job exist?
LTC Nurse Manager helps ensure that all residents receive high quality care and treatment. The nurse manager supervises the nurses and provides direction to nurses and line staff. Ensures highest standards of care are met in accordance with the Joint Commission and state Licensing and Certification. Conducts regular supervisory meetings. Assures that all staff on assigned units maintain all mandatory competencies. Meets supervisor/clinical staff and reviews unit report of the last 24 hours/weekends and implements plan of action for the day. Reviews reports on chart audits and delegates plan of correction and evaluates delegations.
Meets and coordinates with staff regarding issues and staff assignments based on resident needs and staff¿s capabilities. Oversees the monitoring and implementation of the Treatment Plan. Assures that documentation of patient¿s progress towards treatment goals is done on a regular basis. Advocates for patients by communicating progress made, difficulties with implementing the treatment plan and other concerns to the rest of the treatment team and actively participates in the staffing's. Evaluates effectiveness of the treatment program and communicates with the team.
How does it get done?
Supervise Nurses and CNAs.
Participate in morning meetings to provide leadership and guidance for any issues that arise.
Round on the units and interact with the residents and staff.
Participate in care planning and monitoring.
Participate in CMS and Joint Commission surveys - help complete any plans of correction and ongoing monitoring as necessary.

Minimum Qualification
Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico, or eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements, or eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico and two (2) years of management experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.

Must obtain a Defensive Driving Certificate
1. SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITIONS--This position ls designated as safely sensitive. Employment Is subject to pre-employment and random testing. In accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules, and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Employment ls subject to nationwide criminal background checks and is conditional pending results.
2. CRIMINAL RECORDS BACKGROUND CHECK-Must successfully complete post offer pre-employment criminal records background check. Employment is conditional pending the results of criminal records background checks. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Successful completion of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Working Conditions
Office like setting with some time spent interacting with the residents. May be exposed to residents with dementia or other diagnoses that may lead to unpredictable behavior.
