Why does the job exist?
The Environmental Health Bureau (EHB) is charged with the protection of public health by overseeing regulatory compliance with food service establishments, aquatic facilities and on-site septic systems.
This front-line position is critical in support of the Bureau's mission to protect public health. The support provided to the Bureau's technical and management staff greatly increases their ability to perform their job duties at a high level. Also, because of the many opportunities to interact with the public, communication of needed information and direction is critical in helping to ensure regulatory compliance is achieved. The position will also provide customer support services to both internal and external customers to ensure efficient function of the field office daily operations/workflow and serve as initial point of contact answer incoming phone calls, reception of walk-in clients, workflow process such as data entry, mail preparation/distribution, postage logs, travel vouchers, vehicle logs.

No prior experience or training required.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending, and reaching may be required.

How does it get done?
- Greet visitors, answer phones/emails, and direct inquiries appropriately
- Perform data entry, filing, and manage public records requests
- Provide administrative/clerical support, including scheduling meetings, reserving conference rooms, note taking
- Maintain vehicle binders, ensuring all information is up to date. Monitor, log, and coordinate state vehicle maintenance, as needed
- Issue invoices and process payments
- Prepare travel reimbursement packages for staff
- Coordinate the office supply orders for staff, maintain office supply inventory, prepare documents for mailing and packages for shipment

- Occasional contact with external Federal, State and Local regulatory bodies as well as contractors and environmental not for profit organizations
