The Construction Industries Division protects consumers by regulating the industry through policies that promote business growth, safety, and general welfare of the public. The division strives to provide excellent customer service, every time, while:
Ensuring that construction is performed in a safe, competent, and professional manner
Licensing contractors and enforcing licensing laws
Requiring licensure for any person practicing or offering to practice construction contracting
Enforcing the laws, regulations, and standards governing construction contracting in a fair and uniform manner
Providing resolution to disputes that arise from construction activities
Interviews are anticipated to take place within 2 weeks of the closing date.

The General Building Bureau Chief position oversees the general building inspection program for the practical safeguard of persons and property in New Mexico.
How does it get done?
The General Building Bureau Chief position will supervise all general building inspectors. The Bureau Chief will work in conjunction with the division director and provide monthly reports as requested. They will manage the building code, policies and procedures. Conduct quarterly analysis of inspection areas and processes to maximize resources and make adjustments where needed. Administer all general construction plan review activity. Oversee the technical development of the construction licensing requirements. Track bureau activity and evaluate staffing needs. Conduct general building inspection and complaint inspections as needed. Provide support for local jurisdiction.

Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field of study from an accredited college or university and eight (8) years of professional level experience with a tactical impact directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling twelve (12) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess a defensive driving certificate and maintain a valid driver's license. Must be able to pass a preemployment background check.
Working Conditions
Incumbent will move about construction job sites in all types of weather and conditions to include, at times, extensive drive time. Climbing ladders, negotiating ditches and trenches and avoiding hazards typically related to construction sites. The incumbent must lift up to 25 pounds. Work is performed using a personal computer for extended periods.
