The Central Research Station is hiring a Research Farm Manager 1. More information can be found here: Doyle Chambers Central Research Station.
Five years of experience in farming; OR
Twenty-four semester hours in an agricultural, plant science, or animal science field.
Job Duties:
As a Research Farm Specialist 1, you will have the following job duties:
- Livestock management and Animal Health: Supervises day to day care of horses, goats, and sheep. (35%)
- Pasture, Facility, and Equipment Management: Supervises pasture rotation, forage management, and land use. Supervises maintenance of barns, fencing, buildings, and related infrastructure. Coordinates equipment rotation, maintenance and minor repairs. (25%)
- Personnel Management and Supervision: Directly supervises full-time staff and part-time student workers. (15%)
- Teaching and Extension Support: Provide animals for teaching laboratories and extension outreach events. Host visiting groups, producers, and extension programming events. (15%)
- Research Support: Coordinate with faculty and research scientists on project requirements, timelines, and resource needs. Maintain research quality production and inventory records. Support graduate students and other personnel conducting experiments. Performs other duties as assigned. (10%)
Position-Specific Details:
- Appointment Type: This position does not participate in a Career Progression Group.
- Work Schedule: 40 hours per week, M-F, with the potential for some weekend work.
- Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
- Location: Central Research Station, Baton Rouge, La.
- This position is not eligible for remote employment.
