Elayn Hunt Correctional Center is seeking a skilled and motivated Maintenance Repairer to help keep our facility operating safely and efficiently. In this hands-on role, you’ll tackle a wide range of maintenance tasks that directly support the daily functioning of one of Louisiana’s largest correctional institutions. Two years of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR
Completion of a two-year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering; OR
Twelve semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses.The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here.
Job Duties:
- Performs minor repairs on navigational locks, including replacing hydraulic hoses and assisting with routine maintenance to ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Maintains and repairs a wide range of motorized equipment, conducting tune-ups, replacing or adjusting worn or damaged components (such as carburetors, generators, alternators, starters, pumps, and brake linings/pads), and performing limited disassembly of major systems—engines, transmissions, final drives—to assess damage and determine necessary repairs.
- Completes general building and facility repairs, including work on interiors, exteriors, furniture, fixtures, and structural components. Performs maintenance and troubleshooting on air-conditioning and heating systems, and carries out tasks in related trades such as plumbing, carpentry, and electrical to support overall facility upkeep.
