What are the responsibilities and job description for the BIOLOGIST III position at State of Alabama?
The Biologist III – Wildlife Option is a permanent, full-time position with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Positions are
located throughout the state. This is advanced management and scientific research work in the study, development, and improvement of
wildlife resources in an assigned district.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENT(S)
• Current, permanent status as a Biologist II – Wildlife Option or Conservation Enforcement Officer – Wildlife Biologist Option with the
Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (for the promotional register only).
• Graduation from an accredited* college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Management, Wildlife Science, or a closely related
field and three (3) years of professional experience in wildlife research or wildlife management.
OR
• Graduation from an accredited* college or university with a Master’s degree in Wildlife Management, Wildlife Science, or a closely related field
and one (1) year of professional experience in wildlife research or wildlife management.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT(S)

issued to students, photocopies of transcripts, and faxed transcripts will be accepted. Information obtained from the internet will NOT be

• Qualified applicants must meet the education requirements for certification as an Associate Wildlife Biologist by the Wildlife Society. The
Wildlife Society’s requirements for certification as an Associate Wildlife Biologist can be found at http://wildlife.org/.
• Qualified applicants must obtain a valid driver license issued by the Alabama Department of Public Safety during the probationary period.
• Some positions may require qualified applicants to meet the requirements for Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Act (APOST)
during the probationary period.
EXAMINATION
• Open-Competitive to all applicants and Promotional to current state employees with permanent status in one of the classifications listed
above.
• An Evaluation of Training and Experience as shown on application will comprise 95% of the applicant’s final score for the promotional register,
with the remaining 5% being based on the average of the applicant’s service ratings for the last three years. Scores from the Evaluation of
Training and Experience will comprise 100% of the final score for the open-competitive register.
Salary : $58,111 - $97,716
