Under the general direction of the Director of Finance Excellence, the Financial Analyst I performs routine analytical work to support budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and year round financial consulting services. The position participates in a rotational development program across Financial Operations, Financial Planning & Analysis, Financial Reporting, and Finance Systems & Data Support. The incumbent builds foundational technical skills, strengthens business acumen, and contributes to special projects that support enterprise priorities.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Conducting research and data gathering for budget variance analysis, forecasting, planning, and ad hoc reporting
• Maintaining financial models, dashboards, and management reporting tools
• Analyzing financial and operational data to identify trends, issues, and insights
• Supporting Hyperion reporting, data validation, and system updates
• Assisting in preparing financial materials for senior leadership and the Board
• Participating in planning cycles, budget entry, cost center maintenance, and review of financial assumptions
• Supporting cross functional initiatives and contributing to process improvements
• Participating in rotational assignments to develop broad functional expertise

• Foundational knowledge of accounting principles and financial analysis
• Ability to gather, analyze, and interpret financial and operational data
• Strong analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills
• Ability to learn new systems, tools, and analytical methods
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present financial information clearly
• Ability to work independently, manage shifting priorities, and deliver high quality work
• Interest in developing long term expertise in financial planning, reporting, and financial systems
This position may be filled at one of the following State Fund locations: Pasadena, Glendale, Pleasanton, San Francisco, Sacramento, or Vacaville.
The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.
Selected candidate(s) hired may be required to attend in-person Onboarding at our Vacaville office with expenses for attendance paid by State Fund.
